Thanksgiving Is Not About Oppression, As Some Would Have You Believe.
I believe I may know more about Thanksgiving than some Americans, even though I am just a legal immigrant to the USA,
I have been disturbed by some of what I have heard in the media, that this Holiday is based on oppression of the Native American people.
THIS IS NOT TRUE!
The first such feast occurred in 1621 and was arranged by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth to celebrate Wampanoag people.
Without the Native American tribal people, the Pilgrims would never have survived that first season after they made landfall in America.
They were taught how to grow crops in this alien land, as well as the rearing of fowl and other beasts.
So this is a holiday of CELEBRATION, not oppression.
Legend and symbolism feature strongly in the American Thanksgiving Holiday.
So, the traditional Thanksgiving meal will usually include turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. All of which came from the First Harvest of the Pilgrims.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, GIVE THANKS AND ENJOY YOUR CELEBRATION.
Best wishes,
Jenni

The natives did the saving in the beginning and later the Pilgrams offered to teach them their language etc
Sorry if I said that incorrectly.
Yea you understand well. The Pilgrims saved their little necks with kindness, food, and teaching. It is a day of remembering and giving thanks.
It is so sad how they try to destroy anything of historical relevance, Jeff. They're trying to re-write history and we cannot let them!
Rest assured, Jenni! If they continue trying to do these things, there WILL be a reckoning!
I don't know much about Thanksgiving
But I hope it will a wonderful time for you and your family
Thanks Simone. The story of Thanksgiving as above is quite true. Families generally get together for a big turkey dinner, with all the trimmings and there is a tradition of mentioning what you are thankful for this year.
Yes, thank you. We did. And I am thankful for your friendship and that of the many friends I have made within the WA Community.

Glad someone set this straight! It really doesn't have much to do with the Pilgrims at all. It was actually the result of a proclamation by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 to have a day to unify the country by all being grateful for all our blessings.
Don't you just love how folks will cherry pick then twist only the pieces which fit their narrative to condemn others?
Indeed, Jannine. It is so annoying when people try to change history!
