The Gaming Industry as a Niche.

I was 12 years old. I had only slept about an hour the previous night, my heart filled with the overwhelmingly agonizing anticipation that Christmas Eve always seemed to cause in children. I leapt out of my bed and gleefully raced toward the living room. I eagerly sorted through the neatly wrapped gifts lying under our Christmas Tree, hunting for the ones that had my name on it. We did not have much growing up so I had learned to temper my expectations and I picked up the small rectangular gift marked with my name.

I tore the wrapping off, and to my excitement it was the latest volume of a Forgotten Realms fantasy novel that I had been wanting so bad. I immediately grabbed my newly acquired treasure and headed to my room to throw on my walkman headphones and transport myself to a land of dwarves, elves goblins and dark elves. This was my joy.

I was a nerd, N.E.R.D., totally versed in the lore of the fantastical lands of Middle Earth, and smitten with Forgotten Realms and Dragon Lance amongst other popular titles of the time. As time went on the development of Video Games began to peak my interest. While video games got a bad wrap, I viewed gaming from a much different perspective. I was absolutely in Heaven while adventuring through various video game worlds that were peopled with all of the familiar cast of characters I grew up reading. To me video games were an evolution of the novels I used to read.

I now could traverse the lands of Middle Earth carving out my own path, free to choose how the character's story would be written. Most importantly, now as a 38 year old father and husband, video games are one of the few things that can bring out my inner child and bring up that genuine sense of childlike joy and wonder which can often be missing in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Upon researching the Gaming Industry, I was delighted to find that the opportunity to make a living in this exciting field is a very real and absolutely possible reality. This is my niche.
