Jeff, Although the Chiefs did not really stop the run, they did stop it enough times to put doubts in the mind of Shanahan to use it consistently in the 4th quarter. Plus the fact that Mahomes is known for his comebacks. Which he came through like the champion he is.
I agree, but that could also be Shanahan's inexperience as well. San Fran was running at will on the Chiefs in the third quarter!
He did something similar as offensive coordinator in the Super Bowl for Atlanta against New England. His team had a 28 to 3 lead and then blew it and eventually lost in OT! IMO he is overrated as a coach,because he tries to be too crafty.
Yep looks like a repeating pattern, but I think he will be even more motivated to make SF a winner.
His problem next year will be every team in the off season will be studying his running game. Just like Walsh's west coast offense it will be cracked and better defended upon.
At the end of the day it will be the skill of the athletes on the 2020 roster that determine 2020 results. Defense, run offense, passing offense, and special teams must be delivered at key moments. Good coaching knows when to motivate each. Fortunately Robert Saleh will be with the Niners for atleast one more season.
I agree with you for the most part. Lynch and Shanahan did a tremendous job of taking a losing team and molding them into a playoff contender. However the 49ers did take the NFL by surprise. It will not happen next season. Strength of schedule will be more difficult and can the 49ers again stay away from the injury bug that affected most of the other contenders? What I'm saying is this is a very good team but it is going to be much more difficult for them to repeat what they did this last season. Saleh will definitely be offered a head coaching job after next season.
I've been a 49er fan since the Hugh McElhenny, John Henry Johnson, Joe Perry days. YA title was the QB back then, but these were run dominated days, like this year's team.
The 4th Qtr was painful for me to watch. What seemed to work for the Niners all season seemed to be out of sink.

The game has come a long way since Bill Walsh. The Niners and Shanahan had a good season. They will be competitive in the NFC next season.
Neither team is my main team, and both got my attention throughout the playoffs. I favored the chiefs to win, but it was a even game until the last qtr.
The super bowl show i did not like, not because of the music so much as their outfits and crudeness in dance. My 8-10 year old nieces I would not want them to see it. Fox let it go and they are getting a lot of flack. Interesting the shirt off Adam Levine got people unhappy but this everyone says was super! :(

Did the Chiefs win? Oh yeah, I watched the 2nd half. Great game regardless who may have been rooting for. I like teams like the Chiefs who have the ability to bounce back regardless of the score. Lots of partying and celebrating in KC.
