LOOK the Part, ACT the Part, then BE the Part-NaNaNaNaNaNa

The title phrase (before the 'Na's') have been my words to live by ever since I started my first official legitimate business almost thirty years ago, back in 1992.

This mantra is loosely based on Chevy Chase's character, Ty Webb's "Be the Ball" skit in the 1980 Movie Caddyshack.

As in all my business ventures, my first goal was to be looking the part--for my fledgling Locksmith Business, I bought a 1963 Ford Econoline Van and hand painted it with my own artwork, made most of my own car lockout tools, and invested in some locksmithing tools. This is a shot of my first van as it sat in 2019 in my Salvage yard that I had to sell after it flooded. Sadly, I had to sell it, but not before I sold all the doors and other critical parts.

At the time, I was apprenticing under an older locksmith who I met when I needed some keys for one of my cars. I collected full sized vehicles like a kid collected hotwheels--buying and selling them when I found something new that I fancied and had grown tired of the old. (this would eventually lead to me becoming a licensed used car dealer for 7 years--but that's another story)

Anyway, this older locksmith took me under his wings, and I took a Locksmith correspondence course--sometimes using his machines to put the finishing touches on the keys being made for my lessons. In 1993, I took my certification tests and passed, and began running this man's business since he was planning on retiring soon. I was then acting the part!

All this, because I needed some keys made for a car! I bought him out shortly after that and went into the phone book, hanging out my shingle, and hence started being the part.

There are many other businesses and side hustles that I've gotten into and out of over the years, using this same motto, mantra, or whatever you choose to call it! Some of them, I still do!

In all of these ventures, I always started out by looking the part, acting the part, and then being the part (insert the word BALL for part, if you wish).

Love the history!
"Necessity is the Mother of Invention!"
I fell into learning stained glass, as I was throwing the Houston Post, while being a stay-at-home, Mom, a taking a break from teaching!
After many days of waving to early walkers, one day this guy introduced himself!
"I'm Robert, and I make stained glass!"

"Oh, I'd love to learn!!"

That's all it took, and one lesson later, I was on my way.
Granted, I had the desire, and some art and jewelry making background, so the learning of this craft was simply a step higher on the scale.
I've used the saying..."Act, as If"!
And
"Where the mind goes, the feet will follow!"
I'm adding this one to my repertoire!
Thanks, Jeff!
Barb

See, Barb! Just like you say, where the mid goes the feet will follow! It is when we get the proper mindset that we can do ANYTHING!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

Putting out the intention, and trusting God, Universe...for right timing!... and the outcome!!;)

With those two--mountains can be moved, Barb!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Love this... have definitely got the t-shirt for this in one of my previous job roles! But all ended well, I pedalled quickly and caught myself up... and if anyone noticed that I was not 'the real deal' to start with they didn't say! Perhaps it was all the questions I asked? Phew... Sue 😊

It may have been, Sue! I appreciate your kind comments, my friend!😊

I see the word Bonded JB.
In Australia we used to use term Indentured. When you completed your trade you had Indenture papers.
At the time indentured did mean master and apprentice.
These days it is a bit kinder, employer and apprentice.

I had better get back to playing the part.

Who knows, one day I might rule the world.
