Code Academy
Hey everyone,
There is a site that i was introduced last year, and this offers a very simple way to learn code. I started using it last year before I ran into all my medical problems. I was reminded of it existence last night when i was going through one of my hard drives.
It truly is a great educational site, and it covers languages that our templates use such as HTML CSS and PHP. It even covers javascript and python and a bunch of others. I know many of us are focused on our own websites, but I am going to try and put in a half hour or so each day on it.
They never overwhelm you with information and they teach you everything step by step. It is completely free and they do not ask for credit cards or any other personal info besides your email. Its definitely worth at least checking it out.
The URL is http://www.codecademy.com/

Thank Jeff, I studied HTML but have not used it in a while. This will help refresh my memory.
There are a lot of well put together sites that offer programming training, but I never had success with any of them, CodeCademy included. The reason is that the program just has you solve one problem and build on it. It's a single project, and really you'll never learn proper syntax and practice that way. And you can't learn programming by watching videos or copying snippets to put them together in a certain way, that's not how it works.
I'd go for professional textbooks from places like Pearson and McGraw Hill. Liangs Intro. to Java is incredible and will make learning any language pretty easy after going through it. http://www.pearsonhighered.com/liang/
The full list of programming sites I've gone through are below, the only one worth any time (if you're looking for free) is "Learn Code the Hard Way".

Hey Jeff thanks a million. Good stuff. I really like the techie stuff involved....maybe because I have a BS in Electrical Engineering! I NEED to know how and why things work.
I read your profile...hope you can overcome the medical issues. I got a lot of my own. Just stay dedicated; nose to the grindstone as my Dad always told me; and you will succeed here! Cheers ~ Joe.
Thank you. I am pretty much out of the woods for now. If i can stay away from heavy amounts stress and heat and live a healthy lifestyle then ill be fine. I hope your doing well too.
