Writing for success.
In my other life - the one away from the internet I more or less write for a living.
My background is in Public Relations and Marketing and I currently do work as a speechwriter amongst other things.
While living abroad for three years I started a blog about my cultural experiences and while I had experience writing press releases, administrative literature etc. I found out that writing a blog which requires consistent updates and content is a horse of an entirely different nature.
Some days the thoughts just rolled out of my head and onto the screen and literally the blog just wrote itself... on other days I would stare at the screen for hours on end without one single lucid thought. I would find a million distractions... cleaning out my email box led to rereading old ones that brought back memories of a friend I had not spoken to in a long while, which led to sending a message, which led to a lunch date which started me thinking about what I should wear, which turned into a prime opportunity to do some online shopping and... well you get the picture. No productivity.
Over time I realized that I had to find a way to overcome this block that descended on me from time to time so I organized my days so that I would write only when I was alone at home... I had a four hour window when this was prime and I told myself that no matter what... whether I had a topic in mind, or whether a new installment was due or not - I was going to write during that time. At first it was slow going... many days I walked away with one sentence, but it was a sentence I was happy with, and it was proof of my productivity. Some days I just typed not knowing what was going to flow out - but something did because I forced myself to sit and and focus and form a habit of writing.
Since instituting my write no matter what policy, it has become increasingly easy... I may not finish it all in one day and the next day I might decide that it s all rubbish and begin again, but once you have a base to work from it gets much easier.
I say all this to encourage those of you who may be intimidated by coming up with content for your website and blogs... it really is a process, but one that gets easier the more you work at it and devote the time to tit just as you would any of your other workday tasks. Ultimately this content is what will pull people to your websites so write, write, write!
Massive success to all!

Thanks! You definitely are offering a wonderful piece of advice. It's funny though because you are essentially writing about writing :) Anyways, I really appreciate the time you took to write down your thoughts, hope to hear more from you. Wonderful post btw.

Hi Floridajf - I’m glad you enjoyed it... I really just wanted to get my feet wet because I realized that I’ve been drinking in what everyone else is saying but I hadn’t contributed anything of my own. It’s much easier to write about something you know right? I hope all is going well for you so far and I wish you lots of success with your endeavor! Hope to see you around!

Great post Jazz - and so true - that's what writing is all about. Thanks for sharing, Desmond
You’re very welcome... sometimes easier to do theoretically than practically :)
