Affiliate Marketing Disclosures

There is something that we all need to pay closer attention to. Many of you are already doing this but some of you are not even aware of the need. The guidelines for affiliate marketing disclosures do change from time to time. I need to update my sites and you may need to do that as well.

It used to be that an affiliate marketing disclosure could be in the footer or in your privacy policy. Now, it seems that it must be very noticeable and presented without the need to either scroll to the bottom of the post or by clicking on something. I recently suggested to a friend to place a short disclosure on the sidebar. However, will that be seen in a mobile view? That is something to consider as well. Some themes will and some won't.

I found an excellent article by Copyblogger that shows an easy way to create a simple disclosure and use it to your advantage.

Those who are Amazon affiliates should be aware of their rules as well. If Amazon checks your site and you do not have the following on it, they can close your account and with hold any payments that they owe you. This is copied from their terms of service.

. "You must, however, clearly state the following on your site: “[Insert your name] is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to [insert the applicable site name (amazon.com, amazonsupply.com, or myhabit.com)].”

I hope that everyone has a good and productive day.

Take care,

Glenda

Thank you Glenda for this information. I know this is something I have to address yet!

Yes, I need to do some updating as well.

Every time I learn something new I am updating, lol!

Thank you for the heads up Glenda:)

You are welcome.

I can spell (" their time") I just got a bit carried away with this new set of rules. BTW - imagine if offline retailers had to put signs up on their windows - "Warning - every piece of fruit, bar of chocolate or other item that you buy in this shop is earning a profit for the proprietor. I think it's ridiculous and wonder what other WAers think about it

I think that we all get "carried away" from time to time. Thanks for commenting.

Much of these rules and regulations have been set up to earn money for the government as opposed to actually helping consumers and small business owners. The "big boys" always find a way around these rules and it becomes more and more difficult for those who are genuinely trying to set up a small business. I am an ex-mortgage broker and I watched as legislation played a very great part in damaging the housing market here in the UK. If they would spend more time getting rid of the pornography and violence I think there time would be better spent.

Thanks Glenda. Bookmarked also!

your welcome

Thanks Glenda.. Bookmarked ..

You are welcome.

Thank you Glenda!

you are welcome!

I use a bunch - I have mine in the footer and I have them on a separate page on my site - the link is in my side bar - and I also mention it in every post I do that has affiliate links.

And I am proud to mention I am an affiliate. Some people seem to be afraid to say they are and even go as far as cloaking links.

I think they think because they are an affiliate people won't buy through their links.

So not true

And if someone does not like the fact I am an affiliate and does not use my link - nothing I can do and in reality - who cares.

More people use my links then people that do not. Plus I'm here for the long run and I want to be in compliance with everything.

Thanks for the update and the reminder

If any one needs it I posted affiliate and earnings disclaimers that any WA member can copy and use on their site.

Thank you Leo. You are always helpful to all of us here. I have learned a lot from you. This affiliate and earnings disclaimer will be very helpful to a lot of people here.

I love it Glenda. I've just added a positive disclaimer to my website. ~Marion

That is a good one Marion. LOL

Hi Glenda, I hope this is in the training, I really need to go back through and take a look, it has been awhile.
Thanks for the reminder to everyone :)

Your welcome Shawn. This is something that does change from time to time and I am not sure if the training has the updated version or not. Hope that you are doing well now and back in good health.
Glenda

I am feeling so much better. That was way too close a call for me so I have made some serious life changes., Thanks so much for your concern, how are you doing?

Glad to hear that Shawn. I am doing great, just staying super busy. I suspect that my personality would have me stay busy at something though even if I didn't have it in front of my face. LOL Please continue to take care.

:)
