I know this may have been asked and I feel dumb asking but what is the difference between a link and a promotion?
A link is not necessarily a promotional tool. It could be a redirection, a recommended free content piece, an internal link that points to another post on your site, etc.
On the other hand a promotion has a clear, usually commercial goal and a targeted audience and can be a link, an image, a page, etc
ok so the links I post to my content articles are promotions since they are for a certain product? I'm sorry this really confuses me.

I did that I'm currently waiting for adsense to go through their approval process. I'll check out the liking adsense one. What's the deal with headers and footers too? I have so many questions i'm sorry, i'm trying to following the training but sometimes I feel like things are not explained very well especially to people who have no idea what is even being talked about.

If you are talking about the plugin, is just an easier way to insert codes and HTML segments in your pages without messing around with actual coding
but what codes do you enter? like the one from ad sense? And does it actual show up on your web site or is it like hidden code?

And the code itself won't show up on the site ... The fulfilled action will ... In this case the Adsense ads

Yes, if they are links used to promote affiliate products they are considered promotion.
