After having answered some comments in my other WA posts, I decided to summarize everything I do on Pinterest in this one single post.

This post is structured as follows:

  • General questions & expectations,
  • My routine (step-by-step process),
  • "Pinterest jackpot technique",
  • How to get pinterest followers

Here we go!

Does Pinterest work?

Yes. (Okay we done here, thanks for reading, bye, LOL.)

How can I know? I've had only one pin go viral and it spiked the traffic of my brand new blog for a few days.

Now imagine the potential on an established Pinterst account, with more followers, and more boards...

Also, I see people almost daily report high traffic from Pinterest, which supports what I've experienced myself as a beginner.

How Much Time Does It Take?

It depends on how quickly you can create your pins, as this is the work that takes the longest. For me, I find that 30 minutes is a realistic time frame to complete the whole process (all steps follow below).

How Long Until You See Results?

Do it for the long run, and do the best with whatever attention you can get from the platform...

Then increase your circle of influence from there, monthy by month, year by year.

My Full Pinterest Process:

When I create a pin, it promotes either an article on my blog, or a new video on my youtube channel. (To get the links, check my profile in the "Follow Me on" section, bottom-right corner.)

I'm not creating pins for anything else currently, but that might change in the future. Whatever you are creating your pins for, the steps below should apply as well.

1) I use canva.com to create the images for my pins.

2) Make sure your pin's image is 300px wide, and 600px high. I've read in a guide that these are the optimal dimensions for Pinterest.

3) I use an image from the article for my pin. Most of my images are free stock photos from pixabay.com, but I'm trying to change that soon where I take my own photos / screenshots to be more unique.

4) My pins use the same structure: Top - Headline. Middle - Image. Bottom - Subheading.

5) For the headline I use the article / video title. Sometimes I have to shorten it because it is too long to fit into the pin's width in big, bold letters.

6) Make sure your headline is as large as possible and really stands out.

7) The subheading can be anything that helps with building curiosity, or is a call to action.

8) The image is sitting in the middle (between the headline and subheading).

9) Now, I log into my Pinterest account.

10) But before I upload my pin, I make sure I re-pin at least 5 interesting pins from other accounts that I follow. If something pops into my mind, I even leave a comment where I can. This is important: Share the pinterest love! From what I've read, a minimum ratio of 5:1 is great. That means, for each pin that promotes your blog or yourself, re-pin 5 pins from the community.

11) After I have re-pinned cool stuff, I upload my own pin.

12) The pin's title is the article's / video's title.

13) In the pin's description I write one short sentence, describing where the link leads to. It is usually very similar to my article's Meta Data Description.

14) I also add 3 to 5 relevant hashtags to the pin's description, such as #affiliatemarketing or #quotes etc.

15) Publish it!

"Pinterest Jackpot Technique":

There are two things that can really boost your Pinterest reach:

  • Group boards,
  • Infographics.

To get into a group board, you already should have a healthy-looking Pinterest profile. That means your pins look good, and you're not a self-promoting spam-machine (in other words you follow a healthy mix of re-pins, comments, and pins.)

Once your profile is starting to look good & natural, you can try to get into large group boards in your niche. Once you get accepted, treat the board's followers with respect! Share the love by re-pinning, comment where you have something to say, and only post your own pins once in a while. And if you do post something, make sure it's really really awesome!

That brings us to infographics...

Infographics are amazing: They look good, are super helpful, and people love it. But it takes time creating them. If you are accepted into large group boards, posting beautiful infographics can turn into your traffic jackpot.

I haven't achieved this yet because obviously my Pinterest account is still quite new, but that's the exact goal I'm working towards.

How To Get Followers On Pinterest:

Kyle has created a post specifically for WA members to follow each other. Simply leave a comment, and other WA members will see it and follow you, if you follow them back in return.

Make sure you create a new comment!!! Because there is a 2 years old comment that is constantly being replied to, which pushes it to the top, and consequently pushes allllll new comments to the very bottom where nobody will ever see them again. So if you want people to see your Pinterest link, you have to leave a new comment. Here's the page Kyle posted for us:

You can also leave a comment below with your link and I will follow you back for sure. Click here to follow me on Pinterest first.

Thanks for reading, I hope this was helpful!

This is awesome, once i figure out to shrink my images down I'll be great. Thank you So much. I've really been avoiding Pinterest.

Thank you. This is very helpful to me as a beginner into this Pinterest. I do not know how it works too

Hi Analyn, if you want to go all-in with Pinterest I suggest being much more active on the platform. However, to get started as a beginner this is a good introductory routine 😊

Thanks James, followed you:)

Thank you! :)

Thank you, very helpful post.
Followed you.

Hi Linda, I've followed you back! Thanks for the comment, I'm glad it helped :D

I have been on there quite a few years and pinned stuff but never bothered to interact, mainly lack of time. Now though I shall make an effort and see if I can't grow it more.

Go for it! It seems to work best if done as a daily habit :)

James,

Thanks for sharing this great actionable post with us here.

Blessings

Thanks Gabriel! Always happy to hear when others can turn my information into action :D
