Hi guys,

Bit of a technical question... When you share your website, how do you get a picture of it along with your link?

For example, I shared my site on Google

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my question and give some insight in the comments. As Ericabried is able to share the correct photograph with her link then there is a way of doing it. If I figure out the answer I will post again here.

Thanks for the love guys! :)

Hi Jade, what i did was, i post my link for WA and did not show the picture but it send it to the landing page.

Thanks for the help samu64!

I have not had this problem - the featured image always seems to appear when I share on Google +. Not sure about Facebook as I don't post there.

Ah, this is odd! It must be something you are doing differently then!! It is comforting to know that there is, in fact, a sure fire way of doing it :) Thanks for your info!

I have this same problem on Facebook. It keeps using the wrong image instead of the featured image for the post I'm sharing. Thanks for the workaround ideas

Ahhhh strange! I haven't had that problem. Just the "no image" problem. I will let you know if I find any answers :)

Sounds great! Thanks for your reply.

No worries, Haymanc75. Have a great day :)

I'm not sure of any method to get it to show the image you want

i literally just had this problem sharing to google +, and even though i set a featured image, it still displayed a different image, whereas the feature image showed when I shared it via pinterest...weird! lol.

If I find out a way I will be sure to let you know - It is nice to know that I am not the only one struggling with this :)

Sometimes it will help when you have added a featured image, sometimes it doesn't, I often work around it, by first upload an image and then in the space, tell something about the image I place my website link and a little description, Social Media does often not display the pictures you want to show.

Yea I'm like that too, I try an work around it.

Thanks for the help Loes - I will give that a try :)

Authoring & Writing Content

Hi everyone,

I am currently on the level three training and so I am just getting onto monetizing my site.

Kyle recommends that you do not use affiliate links eve

You don't want every page on your website to be full of affiliate links and have no content, that is what a bridge page is. As long as you have relevant, unique content along with your links it is fine. As for the shop idea, I don't think that will hurt your rankings but I have found through personal experience targeted promotions convert much higher than affiliate shop pages.

Hi again Wendy. This is really helpful thanks. As a new starter it is difficult to judge what google is looking for in terms of rankings and affiliate links. This has brought some clarity though. I will be focusing on targeted promotions I think, I thought of the store page as a bit of an extra :)

Hope you are well, and have a great day :)

Sorry, additional note. it is called "aStore" within the banners and widgets for affilites on the amazon site

Thanks Karen! That will be definitely something I look into :)

I forgot to mention, click on some of my links to see how i link to full pages of products rather than stuffing my page with links...

Hi,
I will give you two examples of how i got around this by linking to full pages on amazon & ebay rather than one product at a time, and making use of banners, below is a couple of links to product pages on a couple of my sites,
http://bosebluetoothspeakerssale.com/products

http://onlinemobilephonedeals.org/iphones
The bluetooth site ranks on page 1 of google for search terms such as,
best buy bluetooth speakers
&
bluetooth ceiling speakers
so in a way it shows its not affecting my rankings, the phone website was my first ever site i built through the training and i no longer work on it due to - to much competition.
hope this helps,
I shall follow you,
Best of luck here at WA : )

Hi Simon,

Thank you very much for taking the time to give me this information - that I very kind of you. Both of your sites are superbly constructed and I can see you are doing well with affiliate marketing so nice one! :)

A quick question about your links to amazon on your website though... the links take the viewer to a whole page of amazon products you recommend. If the viewer buys just one of these products from this page of many products do you get commission even though they only clicked on one link that took them to loads of products?

You have done so well if your speakers site! I will definitely be following you! You are an inspiration.

Thanks again and have a good day. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. :)

Jade.

Hello again jade,
Thankyou for your kind words,

About the amazon question ?

When a customer clicks a link on my/your site,it may be a phone or a speaker, they may not buy either but go on to buy a fridge freezer for instance, you will still be paid commision for directing the customer to amazon, this works all the same if they go on a shopping spree, you will be paid a commision based on the total spend,

I hope this clarifies that for you,

Also if a customer visits your site one night and decides not to buy at that time, but return direct to amazon the "next day" amazon store a cookie which tells them it was your affilate link that directed the customer to them initially.

Thanks for the compliments on my bluetooth site,i made that early days of joning and have not worked on it in ages, when i look at it now i have progressed in building websites (it needs work).

Best of luck : )
I shall follow you...

Amazon offers a widget, I have it installed on my site., it is a "May I suggest" option.

you can check it out here. I am not entirely pleased with the way it lined itself up within my theme, but I think some tweaking might make it just perfect. I like how it works.

Hi Karen,

Thank you this is really helpful! I haven't got on to looking at widgets yet, but it useful to know that such a thing does exist :)

On a different note, we seem to have chosen mutually beneficially niches! Yours is about backpacking and I have recently just written an article on water purifications systems for hiking/travelling.

I know that Kyle suggests promoting one another's pages to get traffic... perhaps it is something we could think about?

The page is here: http://pebbleplop.com/emergency-water-purification-systems

I have left a message on your page, if you could comment mine I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your speedy response and have a great day :)
