What can we do with recurring items and info for new premium members?

Hello,

I have encountered 2 things this week that are important for new (premium) members:

The first one: They don't know the difference between feedback and comment in SiteRubix.
My own experience: It was only because I received a denied on my comment with the reason: "this is a feedback", that I start searching and that I found the difference.
In the short period, I am now a member of this community it is the second time that I read a blog with complaints about this. So there are frustrations around this topic....

How can we solve this that they know from the start the difference between both?
Also, explain that this comment really goes to the site of the requester and so on...

The second item that I thought is important to tell new people: If you want to perform a test - an experiment (like adapting PHP files), please create a test site on the Rubix platform and do not do this on your "production" website

These are only 2 items. I am sure a lot of you will know other items that often are not clear for new members.

Can you please give your input?
Maybe we can bundle them in a mail that is sent when they go Premium?

Or do you have any other ideas?

I can continue with more blogs and so on, but I think the point is clear:
There are already a lot of blogs about this and still people do not know what to do when start.

Grtz,

Bert

TopAchiever's post on Feedback vs Comments is a great place to start and understand the difference between the two. Thanks TopAchiever.

HI there, not so ignorant! ;-)

The first thing you need to understand is that you can type any question like the ones you have in your blog - in the search bar above and you will find many, many answers. If at first you don't find anything, try a different phrase or word, you will find a lot of info if you do a bit of digging! That's how I found out about info that was outdated and started writing blogs about it as well.

Here are two links for you to visit to find out more on your questions: The third is how not to Wreck Your Website:

Hello,

I am glad that you also join "the discussion"...
Because it will be the ambassador's who have the "strongest voice"... ;-)

Yes, I know that there are a lot of these blog's and that's the whole point, you can find maybe 30 or more blog's all about the same thing... Yesterday there was this blog: (And the output there was to create this blog.)

But that is actually the goal of this blog to avoid another 30 blogs about the same subject:
Isn't it a better idea to inform the new members (and maybe also the other members) how to create a comment or a feedback and what the difference is?
Like for example "Thischick" proposed: Maybe a video training on the feedback and comment modules can help.
And Like "Krazykat" suggested: Maybe delivering a small list of recommended training (that are not in the courses) to those new members.

So before they actually start they have already the info how to do things... Maybe also a small training on how to use the search bar like KrazyKat mentioned...

What is your idea about such a small info training list that can be delivered to new members, so we can avoid those recurrent things?

Grtz,
Bert

One possibility is to have a separate training on the feedback and comment modules here at WA. I know both of those things have clear instructions to read, but they seem to be overlooked.

I vote for an extra video training on the WA site feedback and comments. What makes a good comment and what doesn't, etc.

That is definitely a good idea, but my question is then: How can they now the video training is there?

So maybe we can combine your idea with that of Krazykat:
an extra video training on the WA site feedback and comments and then delivering a list (small list) of recommended training to new members...

Something like that?

yes that's what I mean...a video added to the training. It's important enough that it needs it's own separate module I would say. Site comments are our bread and butter...and ain't nobody messing with my bread and butter :)

Ok, very clear to me, I hope somebody (Kyle) can make that sandwich!

Yes, I do notice that new members tend to learn the hard way.

I agree it would be nice to offer some kind of introductory guidance when a person joins the community....not just about site feedback but other things too...like finding your way around the forum....blog rules...what is rank...what is an Ambassador.... The simple question bar at the top that can answer just about anything! I didn't know about that one for a while. When someone pointed that out to me, I thought I struck gold!

All of this info is readily available in trainings and blogs all of which can be found through the question bar, BUT, as a new member, one doesn't even know what to look for let alone where to look for it.

I think we need to be careful not to bombard a new member, but some gentle guidance and hints on key items would be an asset to everyone!

Sounds good indeed, you mean like an easy to read (not completely in detail) How to use WA - some things you should know first guide?

Something like that, but it can't be too long. The majority wouldn't read if it's too wordy.
Maybe a list of recommended trainings. I'm not sure how the trainings would be chosen though. If this were something implemented by Kyle and/or Carson, I'm not sure if they could choose member trainings without showing favortism to those who wrote the posts.
I don't know that would work?

I don't know, first of all: indeed, which training do they choose I just listed 6 blogs/training about comment&feedback; and maybe there are 20...

And secondly, my first idea is: offering a list of recommended training...

It would be great to know other people there ideas about such a list....

I for one didn't know the difference.

Do you have a suggestion how it could be clear from the beginning?

I agree, an email, but to all, not just the premium members.

That can be an option for sure...
