What is a Podcast?

I started at WA, like many of you that have joined to start a blog and figure out how to make money online. Kyle and Carson has created an amazing community. I created a few "test" sites and was still finding my "passion" topic to be consistent while still working a full-time job. I started listening to Podcasts and that was my ticket. It's difficult for me to consistently create a blog post, but using audio and recording my thoughts would be the answer.

So, I started my official website "The Get Motivated HQ Blog" as my home base for my Podcast "The Get Motivated HQ Podcast". I honestly, wouldn't have been able to start my website and Podcast with the quality I have achieved without all of you at WA. So, I wanted to share that you can start a Podcast and the WA community including myself is here to help.

I have been talking to friends and family about the Get Motivated HQ Podcast. They celebrate with joy and then they ask the question “what is a podcast?”. I realized that the term “podcast” isn’t mainstream quite yet. Since we launched this Podcast I have had to explain this question. I have been telling people that a Podcast is an internet radio show on demand, to listen and download from your computer, cell phone or tablet. Once I give that definition, they eventually get it.

This reminds me of the time when people would ask “what is an iPod?”. Today, when people think of mp3 players, they think of an iPod. Podcasts are starting to become more popular every single day, and seem to be on the same journey. Not too far in the distance future, when people think of “internet radio shows on demand” they will think of a Podcast. It is a great medium to spread your thoughts and opinions. Podcasting gives everyone a chance to gain an audience. An audience that want to listen and subscribe.

If you compare the number of music songs to podcasts in iTunes, you will see that podcasts are still a growing medium. When people have a passion for a topic, they can start a blog, make videos on YouTube, start a podcast or all of the above. The cool thing is that most people love to listen to content when travelling to work by bus or car, during their workouts in the gym or outside for a run, versus watching or reading.

Given the fact that Apple promotes podcasts, they know the potential podcasts have. If people search for a topic and are passionate about the same topic that a podcast can deliver, I bet they will be more than happy to listen. This is happening every single day. Looking today on different topics in iTunes, I have seen huge names and television networks joining this media stream. This confirms to me the momentum and popularity that podcasts have become.

Before launching the Get Motivated HQ Podcast, I only started listening to podcasts for about 10 months. Once I started it was addicting. There were so many great podcasts from different perspectives on any given topic I was interested in.

I believe podcasts are going to be around for a long time and will continue to grow as a medium. If you have a voice that is begging to be heard, consider starting a podcast. If you go to my resource page there are helpful tools and resources to help you get started.
