Google Core Update - An Opportunity for Forced Improvement!

Greetings fellow WAers!

Well, thanks to Kyle's recent post about Google's changes to it's website ranking metrics, I discovered that some of my page one rankings on my websites went right in the toilet! One of the worst cases was a page went from the first page of Google to not even in the tenth. Yikes!

But, fortunately WA has such great metric measurement devices that we can quickly refer to, I discovered what my problems were and I have spent the last three days updating Wordpress, Themes, and even changed an outdated theme to something more current.

All that was achieved with some help from the resources here at WA!

One of my sites is now six years old and mature by website standards. But, some of the mobile speed numbers were terrible: anywhere from 45 to 60, out of a possible 100 rating. But, look at them now. This is just a few of the 200 pages and posts I have on the website:

They are all running about the same numbers.

It was a lot of work but I am hoping to see my rankings go back up again!

Since the recent May 4, 2020 update focuses on Hosting Speed, Theme and Plugin Speed, User Design, and Ads, those were the areas I had to improve on.

So, now all websites are up-to-date, cleaned up, and rockin' the pagespeed metrics.

Take that Google!! LOLOL

Great job Howard! Thanks for sharing too, it's a great reminder to check on how our websites are doing after these Google updates as you never know if they've affected your rankings or not until you start losing traffic and sales.

This reminds me, I definitely need to work on a couple of mine yet...one I recently updated everything, even the theme, and traffic is already picking back up! So, I'm sure yours will too...you're so right, it might take work, but it's worth it! :)

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Thanks for sharing, Sherry!

Thank you for this post, Howard. I found out embedded YT videos affect the speed a lot, what did you do with them to improve it?
Also, did you install some lazy load plugin?
Thanks
Lenka

That's great and thank you for the post. As for my own site, the desktop one is full speed, but my mobile metrics ar 59...😳.

Sounds like you need to do what I did. Check out your images first using the Google Pagespeed link.

Yeps! My pictures need some work!

Thanks!

Good to hear you are doing well, Howard! Keep it up.

Congratulations, Howard.
