It depends on the licencing of theme - meaning some themes come with a developer licence meaning I can install the theme on any site and even do it for free. So that's ok.
But if I just buy a theme - only I can use it.
So if you feel this person just gave you a premium theme and was not allowed to, personally I would not use the theme even though you could (at your own risk).
Just go buy your own version of this theme or any other premium theme - then you're guaranteed to have no problems at all.
On a personal note the person sound like a prick and someone you don't want to deal with, smart to block them.

Well I know he's in a worse financial situation than I am, so I'm wondering if he was possibly trying to take advantage of me.

A good mentor will talk you through doing things for yourself. When I mentor using Skype the client shares their screen with me while I advise them what to do. There is seldom any need for me to log in to their website.
Hi Marion, yeah I'd think that's how it should be done. That's why I got suspicious when he asked for access, I definitely wouldn't give him admin access, although if he wanted to write/edit posts, I would probably give him an account for that. He was asking for the ability to modify WP itself though.

I like to read a lot of different sources for things, and have a varying difference of opinion. So, what are everyone's favorite marketing/social media blogs and/or newsletters
I have to say it can be difficult deciding which is good information and which isn't.
I've been there and it isn't pleasant.
I would suggest setting up what I call a 'circle of trust'.
You need some method of determining who gets into your 'circle of trust' - or not.
I would say 'start a list'. Now this wouldn't be your usual email list we at WA tend to go on about.
I am suggesting a list. Like a real list you put into a document on your hard drive.
So if you have found from experience that a website which uses certain words and phrases is, in fact, a scam website, then you put these words and phrases onto your real list document.
So next time if you are unsure about about a blog or newsletter, all you need do is match it against your real list document.
If yes, feel free to send to your junk or trash folder.
Either way, you will have dealt to both a scam blog or newsletter AND discovered a new way to deal to information overload.
