Does this Niche make me look FAT??

Ya like that little play on words I did there?? Wondering if my niche is too broad - plus my niche is on weight loss, so really it's like a DOUBLE play on words to ask if it makes me look fat - clever, right?? NO?? Sigh...maybe that's why I'm still single - but alas, that's for another conversation!

Seriously, though, I got a great email today from my WA sponsor, Nathaniell, and it got me wondering if my niche is too broad. So I'm doing what any smart WA-man would do - I'm asking for advice from my WA family! (A friend of mine always says that to achieve success, surround yourself with people smarter than you!!) Nathaniell gave a GREAT description: he said Coffee is an industry. Organic coffee is a market. Extra bold organic coffee from South America is a niche. Wow - that's a great way to break it down, don't you think? He said that it's like the old saying, "if you try to appeal to too many, you will appeal to no one."

So what about mine, then? My domain is getstrongwithjulie - i'm fine with that. I created it to honor my sister, and that was her most famous "saying" that is now plastered all over the little town of Boone, NC - "You're Stronger Than You Think". She wanted everyone to reach their fitness potential and to realize that feeling strong was an awesome feeling, and that exercise will make you feel strong.

But am I targeting too many? I'm attempting to share her passion by posting about several things - not just one. I write posts about healthy eating habits and sometimes include great fat-burning recipes. I write posts about exercise and share (and will be sharing) some of my favorite fat-burning exercises. The exercises all are centered around the idea of building strength/muscle in order to burn fat. I write posts and share links to some great weight-loss programs available - some people might need more direction than just my posts in order to get to their healthiest weight, so these programs can help. I also did a post and shared a link for my favorite brand of workout clothing.

To me they all seem connected, but as I listed them above, they sound like they're all over the place. UGH - am I over-thinking this?? I don't think I could just pick one of those topics above to focus on. It's all inter-related. In order to be your STRONGEST, you need to eat right, be at your most ideal weight, and do the right type of exercise. (So maybe the clothing post wasn't necessary, but it was the first thing I thought of when I was on the lesson on linking from Amazon!)

So what is my niche?? Weight loss? Partly. Fat-burning foods, yes. But also fat-burning exercises. So is it just "fat-burning"?? Or is it all of them, and I'm just multi-niche-ional?? HAHA!! Sorry!! I'll end this and send it to your capable hands before I throw out any more cheesy word-plays!!

I think you shouldn't stress too much about it. Your domain is broad enough that you can always change directions later. Start the site about general weight loss, and you can refine your idea as you go. When I started One More Cup of Coffee I used to blog about real estate investing and stock investing too. After checking my traffic and realizing I didn't really like blogging about that stuff, I changed my site to do exclusively internet marketing stuff.

Personally I have no idea why you're not married BUT in relation to the Blog it would seem to me you have the making of three or four different sites. That way you can pick which Niche you write for. "Recipes for Burning FAT" How to Burn Fat off by Exercise" How to feel strong in all you do". Hope that doesn't cause more confusion.

Nathaniell actually never said it was too big - I was just referencing his great tips in an email he sent (not just to me - to all his followers). But I do think I'm too "all over the place". But all those subjects are important to me. So maybe a compromise is this - I could pick the one that spoke to Leigh the most - strength-building workouts - and that's what my main focus/posts will be on. But occasionally, I could "sprinkle in" a post on some healthy food recipes I came across, or a motivational speech that Leigh delivered that I was reminded of. But only do those occasionally and have my main focus be the workouts. How does that sound??

Hi Kyle has said it is best to find a niche within your niche and to have one great site than several average ones, whatever your passion is focus on that aspect

I agree with KatieMac. The more specific you are the more relevent you will be. And relevance online leads to clicks and sales.

Nathaniel is right...it is too big but I understand where you are because mine is too big too. It's just so hard to narrow it down. So many things are connected!!!! You might have to do a couple sites and maybe do links between them.

I'd narrow it down too. Perhaps diets that really work...or one diet, where you can do reviews on other diets, thereby allowing you to do some expansion at a later date. I know I have always focused on one thing at a time in my searches...I never do just a general search. Low glucose/high fiber can be a great diet to gain a great deal of information. You encompass everything you said above, but only as it pertains to one diet/lifestyle. Hope that helps.

Hi Julie. Well, I have to agree with Nathaniell, if he's telling you that weight loss is too broad. :) You've have listed a lot of niches here, that could each have their own website. It's because weight loss can include so very much.

On that note, I would definitely start narrowing it down to an easier level.

My ideas? Hot new diets, weight loss programs, women's weight loss, recipes for weight loss, low fat diets, exercises to gain more muscle, and so many more.

I'd just work at narrowing it down. Hope that helps. :) Michelle
