Why you cannot do it on your own

What would the world be without websites? Once we read newspapers as pure consumers, the only bother was to buy them. And most of us didn't think to write and publish anything, except if you were a journalist

Today, we all write - well, many of us - and we publish our stuff. People don't need to pay for it, no, the poles have changed. Now the writers seek for readers and occasionally pay for them.

So far, so good. We produce our own "newspapers", and most of it happens in our blogs and websites. GREAT - as long as things work as we expect them to do.

My 2 websites were down for over a week (www.thewisdomfactory.de and www.thepowerofrelationship.com) and I passed DAYS with writing emails to support, waiting for the answer and chatting with support of my new service provider. Many hours trying to follow their advice, but NOTHING WORKED.

Nota bene, I don't speak here of WA support)

Today I finally accepted the help of a friend of mine, an IT expert, and after 3(!) hours conversing at the same time with 2 support people in 2 different countries the websites are up again. And the solution seems sooooo easy - when you see it now.

My friend had an idea how it could work - not the ones that support had communicated to me. AND he knew to ask the RIGHT QUESTIONS. So after a long back and forth with internet breakdowns in the middle he got the answer by trial and error with the upcoming infos by the support person - who also needed to find the right path, together with my friend.

YUHEE! Now the sites are working - and I would never have been able alone, becuase I don't know enough to find the workaround.

My Advice: Don't loose days when website support is not able to help you. Find someone who understands IT, really understand that stuff, and allow him/her to find the solution for you. You will save a lot of emotional energy and states of frustration and anger. Life is too short to waste time with these negative energies!

Good advice Heidi!

Dear Heidi, my first website around 2004. It was set up by a woman who did a great job, but I could not change anything without paying her 50 bucks per hour. Later I moved over to Wordpress, and I was in control. Best move I did in the website world. You are totally correct here. Dish the cr-p, love whats good!

yeah, we need each other - and that is great!

I often confuse self-reliance with ego and so I don't ask for the help I need. You're so right, life is too short to waste.

I really can relate to that one!

Great info for sure!! Heidi, right on

Hi Heidi, you are very proactive. Irv.

Outsource, outsource, outsource. True indeed, get the plumbing work done by the plumber (Steve) before your audience lose faith. It's a fast paced world this day and age.

Well, yes and no. I had a VA who is disappeared and who left me alone with all that stuff. She had a hard time, too, to transfer my sites from a German provider to an American one. And then she left me alone with all the questions I had - and still have - regarding how she set up the sites.
I believe now, it is best to learn as much as possible ourselves and then have somebody who you TRUST to help you when you need specialist knowledge. I wouldn't give my login info to someone I have never heard of or seen etc. And then I needed someone who knows both languages.....

Hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks

Extremely good points Heidi.

Writers should write.............plumbers should plumb (boy that sounded weird)
