The strange thing with the website speed
Every now and then I check the speed of my various websites with Google https://developers.google.com/.... At the beginning I was happy, all seemed to be really good, green was the constant color.
Then I didn't check for a while and when I did it again everything was dark red. Then you still got the calculation also for mobile - or is this check for mobile? I have no idea at this pont as it says "unavailable" - and it was far worse than on desktop. I didn't know what to do. There were indications to optimise certain pictures, but the ones they named were not in my library. I asked the theme support and they said that they were inherent to the theme and that I couldn't do anything. Well - ???Then there was something about javascript. Although I now know what that means I had no idea what they were suggesting that I should do, and even less HOW. I again asked support, but that didn't bring me further. So I just let it go, I felt helpless and hoped for better times. I hadn't understood why it had become so much worse, and so, who knows, it could get better in the same ways.
And actually, it did. When I checked lately I was first yellow, and only one hour later even in green. Yeah! Happy again, but no idea what had caused it. I hadn't changed anything essential, only added some more pages and posts in the same way as ever. Then, the next day I checked again - and no green at all, down to yellow, but at least not red, as it was some time before.I am not aware to have changed anything to cause that and I am very curious if anybody knows how these results come out? It doesn't seem to be a reliable information. And also I wouldn't know what to do to keep the speed in "green". Do YOU? If you do, please let me know.
All the best from Heidi in Italy - working hard in trying to understand all this website stuff...

I am in the same boat.
I then used the tools function at pingdom.com and manually check a few pages. They all returned a good result. But not google page insights.
I have decided to wait a while, because I do not think I have done anything that would damage speed. I think google page insights have changed some of their rules in how they determine performance.
I even put in the URL of a fellow affiliate into the pingdom.com tool who I know is really into web site performance, and my results were better than his.
Try not to be concerned about this.
Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. Isn't it weird? There are tools meant to help us getting oriented and instead they confuse us and steel our time. I don't know what to think about that. It induces me to ignore what we have learned, somehow.
Thanks for the link, for your optimism and have a good time.

Hi Heidi, I agree with you 100%. I lost some time trying to get to the bottom of this and never really did. If something like this happens again, I will compare my results in Google PageSpeed Insights against a few other websites that I know are into site performance in both Google PageSpeed Insights and pingdom - And then draw my conclusions.
I am surprised that there does not seem to be more of a discussion about it here though.
Thanks for your reply!
I am not very much active any more in the community after having been fully immersed for 8 months or so. It just takes me too much time although I like being connected. So I really don't know what topics are up to date anymore.
I think you are right: these things should be addressed. The things you try to get right and then you fail and don't know why.
Anyways, I have strange experiences lately with Google. Calendar entries disappear, Hangouts on air are not reliable and I always have to have a backup plan ready for my live events, Chrome freezes regularly and still works somehow so that you don't notice - only when your work of many hours on your website has disappeared because the saving didn't work - and many similar things.
The cyber world is fascinating - as long as it works properly!
Have a good time at WA!
Heidi
