Sunday Evening - the downside of "working from home"

It is Sunday Evening.

Means: the weekend is over. Really? What is "Weekend". Ah, these are the days when other people stay at home, play soccer, football, tennis or play with their children - not a bad idea - and they don't leave the house to go to their offices, shops and what not. Or, once at home, the annoy their family members with their tendency to loose all perception of time as soon as they open their computer, right?

So what has happened to us, guys?

What a blissful state to know what weekends are! People know exactly what parts in their life count as work and which chunk of their time is not-work. Did you ever think in these terms when you still went to "work" every weekday? I guess not.

We are happy because we can work from home

Right or wrong? Many people think it is right - and therefore they join WA! I actually cannot decide which part to choose. It is nice NOT to have to do 200km to go and teach students in the far away Rome. It is nice to stay in my beautiful county house

but

Preparing my online presence and future income I cannot distinguish any more between leisure time and work. Work invades every free moment, there is still THIS to do, then THAT, ah, and don't forget to do xyz, better do it now, otherwise I forget. The overload of info and learning leads into temporary lack of memory - at least it seems so. (actually, it is not true, but...)

I have to drag myself away from the computer - my husband helps although he is a Facebook addict - to enjoy some minutes of the surrounding beautiful landscape with a cup of tea, to go for a walk in our archeological park to do something with our super patient dog, to do some exercise, meditation - or to prepare dinner.

Hey, 8pm, time to wash the salad and create something delicious to eat. At least some joyful moments without computer.

Are you sure?

Probably my husband has found a Ted-talk or other interesting stuff to watch - on the computer and while having lunch.

Does this sound familiar to you?

Have a nice Rest-Weekend!

I hear you loud and clear Heidi!
Life is about choices ... Important each day to reevaluate if we are making good ones or not so good ones...

Yes, exactly - and not to get angry when we realize that we chose the wrong thing, but go on and course-correct.

Have a nice weekend, Heidi.

Ultimately it is your passion that frames your hours of involvement in freelance work. Heidi.

Yes, the problem is that I don't have only ONE passion. lol

I like your detailed ramifications of what it means to work from home, Heidi, it certainly evokes some reflection. Thanks.

If you are passionate about work from home then you realize you must make time for other things to keep your work fresh and exciting.

Yes, every now and then you come to that realization.......
I watched a wonderful concert tonight - always on the computer, but the music was super inspiring: the orchestra of Venezuela with their highly energetic - and very sympathetic conductor Dudamel.
It inspired me to come back to the computer and check my mails from WA!

Try working my office job - then you would give anything to work from home.

No, thanks, it doesn't sound as if it was very inspiring! I hope you can switch very soon!

I hope so too!

I see your point Heidi, nevertheless, I can't wait to start earning a living from home. I can do without the typical structures of "normal" society, no problem:)

I am hearing you, and I can imagine that you don't really like what you are doing right now at work.
I am wondering when the time will come that people LOVE to go to work. It all depends on the organization style of the business. Fortunately, new ways are pioneered and, hopefully, soon will come online......

Great post and great pictures...
I only get a limited time each week to learn and develop this business so when Sunday evening comes, it's time for preparing kids lunches for school, uniforms, bedtime stories and then to start preparing again for my normal work commitments tomorrow morning.
Any spare hour I have goes into learning my new project in life so between my normal working week of 50 hours per week plus 15 hours for WA - I am more than busy which is the way I like ...

This is really a lot of work you have taken on. I can see that the role of father is a very difficult one in terms of feeling in duty to provide the material contributions for their lives. Hopefully, you will get on quickly so that the missing time to be with the kids will soon be balanced!

we work and play,

I think because this business is all about our passion (or should be), we don't mind the endless hours invested (at least I don't). When I need a break, I take one, like this morning. I had a massage, went to breakfast with my massage therapist, came home and took a nap, and now I'm getting 'started' at 2 p.m. I'll probably work until at least midnight, but I don't mind because I love what I do. Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos.

So you have a 10-12 hour workday! It must be, with the amount of posts and comments you bring up here! I wonder what your family is saying?

I have no family. I am retired, and it is just me. I guess I look on WA as family as my medical issues keep me mostly housebound and this is preferable to TV. It allows me to feel useful.
