Happy New Year From a Stranger
So I got a "Have a Happy New Year" wish from a complete stranger and t was a nice reminder that the simplest of things can actually make a difference.
I was checking out at one of the local grocery stores in town. It was pretty busy as people were grabbing all their last minute items for their New Year's Eve celebrations. The kid checking me out was taking a little longer to get things rung up than you expect.
I turned and noticed the man behind me in line was holding a couple of empty shopping baskets. I reached out and took them and from the man walked them to the end of the lane where there were others stacked.
The young man finished packing up my things, I paid, and as I took my bags off the counter the man behind me wished me a Happy New Year, and I replied in kind.
I didn't think too much of it at the moment but as I was on the short drive home it dawned on me how many opportunities there are in our daily lives to share a little kindness with each other.
If we pay attention and take advantage of just a few more of those opportunities than we did the day before, maybe the world, or at least our little corner of it, will be a better place.
Grandiose acts of kindness are great, but fleeting. If you look around, even just a little, you'll see hundreds of little things every day where you can share a little kindness. People will notice, and appreciate it.
Wishing you all a Happy, and kindness filled, New Year.
Cheers,
Haven
