The Task and the Process
I have played sports forever, it has been a passion for as long as memory serves.
I remember when things started getting a little more serious and coaches expected you to do certain things at certain times. Instead of just running after, or catching, the ball.
I was into it. Coach would tell me, "when this happens, do this", and I was on point. When said thing happened, I did exactly that.
Completing the task was pretty easy; if the ball goes there, do this.
But I remember more vividly when it started to dawn on me that there was a meaning behind task. The task wasn't a singular thing to be completed for the sake of completing it.
I began to see the goal of the task. Understanding where the task fit in the overall process of gaining victory; Success.
The task on its own is simply a thing, a check mark. The understanding of what the task is designed to do is invaluable.
As I move through training, and take it step by step, I remind myself of this. "Don't just check the box, understand the lesson and how it applies to the what you are trying to create."
