Hey guys! Whats the best language switcher plugin and how do I implement it on my site? I'm afraid that adding a plugin might mess things up a bit :O

I have two allmost identical sites, one in English and one in Dutch
I translate myself

Loes, I was thinking of doing that! You're not scared to work ;) But I'd rather focus on building content in one language before I extend my feelers out with another site. I just need a language option in french for my french visitors. Don't want to translate my whole site. Sheesh, it's hard enough writing in English being an Afrikaans boy'tjie'. ;) By the way, ever since I went to your site, when I return to WA, your little 'welcome note' is in the front page - I LIKE! But how on earth did you do it?

You mean on the http://freeimages.siterubix.com ? That is the "home page popup" plugin

Awesome! It really gives it a personal touch and homey feel! ;)

oui je parle francais but i don't have any good answer for you harry. Good thing you already have all the support needed

Thanks mate! Yeah I've found a few cool options I'll try. I need to have a french option for my visitors as I will be doing most of my physical advertising and marketing here. ;)

Hey harry2, sounds like Papi has you coverd.

Don't do it.
Translators are really not that good.
I suggest you get a professional translator.
Do you want to lose potential customers? Then put in that translator.
Katskakitchen is right.
I wrote a blog on this yesterday.
Check out the comments.

Hi there Papi! Will check out your blog! I just need a french optional language for french visitors. Don't want to translate all my content. But I agree, most translators are pretty bad :)

Ok Harry,as long as you are aware :)
Thanks for checking out comments on translators in my blog.
People who really know steer clear of them.
At times their " translation" is jibberish !

If I remember correctly, some themes come with language translation features. Not sure if you'll need a plugin though.

Thanks Vanessa! Not even sure what theme I have. I just need a french language switcher option. But I think I've found one or two that could do the trick ;)

Good to know.

Search for Babelfish within the plugins

Will check it out erolalici! I just need a french language switch option for french visitors. Thanks for the help!

No I don't.

Guess you don't need french with your island hopping pilot lifestyle islandcat7 ;)

Harry, I use Transposh on my site, and it works fine, hasn't messed with my site at all. The free version gives you up to 5 languages. You can buy the upgrade and get something like 92 languages.

Also cool, the reader can set their preferred language to default, so when they visit your site the content is automatically loaded that way.

Oldsilly, that sounds pretty cool! Will check it out! I just need a french option and don't want to go through all the trouble of translating all the content myself. Thanks again for the help mate!

Cool man. You can select just the one language if you want. Well, it would be two, of course, English and French. Let me know how it works for you.

Bonjour Harry!
I do speak french :o)
The one I use for my clients is WPML(http://wpml.org/).
It is quite complex, but I think it is the best one.
The easiest, when possible, is to have two different Web sites.
Bonne chance!
Andre

Merci beaucoup Andre! Someone else gave me this one too! All I'm looking to do is give french visitors an option to read my content when they visit - I have a lot of friends who I've played with in France - unfortunately, they don't speak English that well (proud nation and all...) Will check this site out thanks mate!

Please please please don't I speak two languages, and in any translator if you say translate English to French and then put in the French nad translate it back to English the answer trust me is in Mandarin Chinese
If you need a transaltion then get one done profelssionally, uyou just look an idiot with the translators it may not always be the case but it is now and sadly you ahve to speak two languages to know why they are so bad.

Hey there katkatskitchen! I'm just looking for a language switcher to have an option for french visitors. Not looking to translate and convert my site to french permanently. But yes I agree - translating software usually is quite terrible ;)
