5 Things For Everyday
Kia Ora, from New Zealand Friends and colleagues.
Tonight I wanted to suggest 5 things we might all think about every day in order to move our businesses on here at WA.
1. Plan Your Time Wisely
There is a military saying that time spent in reconnaissance is never wasted. What this means is that if you plan and organise your activities you will gain greater benefit than making it up as you go along because you will be more focused and more productive.
I typically plan all my writing, for the coming week, on the weekend. I will even go as far as to have all my titles, and the writing skeletons done, in site content, as per the guidance in my recently published training resource Planning and Writing a Blog Post. I find that this really does make the best of my time and keeps me super productive and focused.
2. One Business Activity Each Day
Many years ago while involved with another entrepreneurial business venture I was taught to do at least one thing every day in my business in order to move it forward and keep me engaged.
In this business that could be any number of things such as;
- Research
- Planning
- Writing
- Post maintenance
- Training for a new skill to apply to our business
There are a range of others that you can probably think of as you read this. The point is that all of them are about 'moving the needle forward on your business meter'.
The consequence of not doing this for many is to gradually find excuses not BWO do anything and the fall away, lose interest and the result is inevitable.
So even if you only have 10 minutes to spare for your business invest that 10 minutes in moving the needle in some way.
3. Resist Temptation
Shiny object syndrome is a killer in this business. I was struck by something which Jay (Magistudios) said in his webinar this week. If he finds a plugin, widget or app that works he stays with it and avoids being distracted by the latest-greatest thing. No need to go chasing after stuff that takes time and distracts from the basics of business building. I guess he knows what he is stalking about huh?
4. Pay It Forward
It is a rule of mine to find a minimum of 10 minutes every day to give back or pay forward. I do this for a number of reasons:
- I believe in encouraging and helping others just because it is the right thing to do
- Helping others actually makes you feel good about yourself
- Helping others encourages others to be helpful in turn and promotes good community
- I believe if you help others you will always find help when you need it too
5. Be Your Best Version of You
The first four contribute to the 5th. I had a great childhood and I had the most wonderful parents. Within the values that they passed on to me and I have passed on to my own children is the all important, be true to yourself and be the best version of you that you can be.
This will pay you in all endeavours of life and people will respect you and gravitate towards you and you will be successful in whatever occupation, career or activity you wish to pursue.
I hope as always that these nuggets help and inspire you on your WA journey and that you can make them available in some way to those who follow behind you into this adventure.
With that I bid you all good night, from New Zealand stay safe and well.

Excellent tips, Hamish! I write down my daily goals. I did not achieve them today because school kept me busy (I had online classes today, then emailing, chatting with students, checking work, grading) and it took hours. But I did a little tiny bit for my own stuff as well today.
Its okay not to make them but you can’t ever hit any target unless you know what the target is Christine. You are statistically more likely to make these goals if you plan and write them down🧐
Hamish,
As always, fantastic stuff my friend.
I was actually going to message you today, as I recall you saying that you are working on a number of sites at the same time, 4 I believe (or did I just dream that).
I am going to start working on a second site this week, but my main focus is still on my bread and butter first site built here at WA.
I was just wondering how you structured and planned out your "additional " work.
However, simply reading your first point "Plan Your Time Wisely" has set off a chain reaction of events in my head.
I love the idea of spending some time coming up with titles, skeletal framework for an article, etc.
Makes perfect sense.
Once again, I bow down to you oh great one, I'm inspired.
Partha
Thanks Partha, you are onto it, I run 3 and that’s how I do it by planning and having a writing method as per the training link above. thanks for the visit and the welcome comment.🧐
Good rules for the day, day in day out. I'm struggling at the moment and momentum is lost but not abandoned.
Dave stay focused my friend. If nothing else for the list do the 10 minutes on your business everyday. You have a great foundation just continue to develop it. You got this Mr Buckley🧐
