Transferring Your Wealthy Affiliate Site To Another Host For Web Developement

I know what your thinking. With all the benefits, associated with hosting your site on Wealthy Affiliate, why would you want to transfer your site? This response is to the wealthy affiliate extremist members who feel the need to resell you a service that does not need a re-sell or up-sell, as the WA site does that all by itself (really well I might add). Stop assuming!! Not everybody who want to do this is anti WA.

Quite simply in my situation, and many others, there is a need to go deeper into the site than on the surface, in order to make it look, feel, and function the exact way you want it to. This is so that when you are following the WA experience on your journey to gain knowledge and achieve success, whatever that may be, that you do not feel that you would have achieved more, with more control over your site.

Kyle and Carson were very helpful, and there have been many wonderful individuals in the WA community who wasted no time to lend me their support and advice on how to do this eg FTP access via Filezilla and other similar ftp tools. Doing this would mean I could keep my site on the WA server, which I very much was open to, given all the support and security features. However, after trying numerous FTP access software, I had no luck as none of the tools could see my site once I had logged in.

The next step was to try making copies of the site using a multitude of plugins. On the Supernova theme, the best plugins used were BackWPup for the site files, and WPBackItUp for the Database.

However upon following a step by step guide which involved accessing my new host by FTP, transferring the site files in Filezilla which took 1 hour and 15 minutes, creating a new MYSQL database and uploading the database files, and even changing the site name-servers back to default settings, so that they were not pointing at WA name servers, the site had many problems. I kept getting site redirects, and even had the problem of another site I have on the host merging with my WA site, which I later discovered was due too the site being placed incorrectly in the ROOT directory folder of my sites file-manager.

All of this would have gone way over my head if I had not had the support of the Ipage WordPress Tech support team.

They have fixed my site issues and I can now continue my WA journey, I would highly recommend them if you are thinking about hosting a site for the purpose I mentioned above. Buying domains from them is also very cheap. Of all the hosting providers, they have been the best in terms of all round service provision. I can always speak to someone within 5 minutes who can help me with any site issues I have encountered,I have not experienced site down time. Email to Outlook and Gmail integration is really easy compared with any other provider I have used. I have used Godaddy, Fatcow (part of Tucows), 123 reg, and 1and1 hosting. So far Ipage wins.

Here is an example of how Ipage works from a user perspective

I also decided to see if there is a referral scheme with Ipage.com. Currently there is a referal credits scheme in place, and there is a re-seller option. Obviously in the spirit of my affiliate journey I would ask that if you decide to give Ipage a chance, please include me as the referee by imputing my site domain: http://www.fixmybodytoday.com in the option box which asks for the person that referred you/ or the referring site.

It has been real. Hope this info has left you feeling well informed.

Your WA friend,

Alexander : )

I find that WA is all about developing the back end so if that is not what you want to do at all then you are in the wrong place.

Thank you for your post! I too am questioning if I am able to do what I need to here via WA. I just purchased a custom script that is WP compatible thinking I could just upload it via WP and boom I would have the site of my dreams! Come to find out, the script requires me to create a cname (for a whitelabel section of the site) and requires me to create a database via MySQL. From what I'm seeing, I can't do this here. The domain I want to use was purchased here and currently has a WP theme installed, but not much else has been done with it.
Based on that, would you suggest I point my site to a new host? If so, would I loose all the features provided by WA, like SSL?

Hey Alexander.
Read your blog post: Transferring Your Wealthy Affiliate Site To Another Host For Web Developement. Nice! And nice to connect with you also.
I got a question for you. I have an existing domain being hosted at Bluehost. The website there was in the building stage (relatively new). I was "recommended" by WA to host it here instead in order to get all the support they provide, etc... But after reading your post, I'm wondering if that's a good idea or not. I ultimately want "full control" over my site, while taking what I learn here at WA and applying that knowledge, etc...
Your thoughts?

I have to say I do not have any problems with hosting here and I feel like we have an extra layer of security and good tech support

Thank you!!!!

Hi Baldo, thank you for reading my post. Without everyone who has commented on my posts, I would never be able to know if my posts where useful to people or not.

Hi Baldo, I hope in our chat what I said was useful to think about. Let me know.

You are right Katie. I guess this is aimed at people that want to develop on the back end of their site, so for somebody that doesn't need to do that it won't be relevant to them. The security features for WA are awesome.

Baldo: May I interject a comment here? When I was researching the thought of participating in e-commerce i check out everything i possible could. Cost of domain name, web hosting, google +, just about everything. What I discovered was this.

If you become a Premium Member (which you are) and you have already purchased a domain (which you have) how can you possibly lose by having WA host your website...it free...it works great...is very secure...and you have access DIRECTLY to hundreds and probably 1000's of people willing to help you. They are only a click away.

Further, WA has made it almost too simple to transfer your website to WA. Just follow the training on the subject and off you go. These are a few of my thoughts on the subject. Cheers. DAN

Hi Dan, I'm glad we agree on this. As I have stated this in the comments here and in my other posts. This post is soley for somebody that has a site with a big back end, and requires a high level (low programming level) of access. I explained to Baldo that for a regular Internet Marketing site WA is everything you need and more.

As I sometimes use the services of developers to build my websites, it's tricky for them, and poses some limitations in what they can see and do with the sites. Also using FileZilla has its limitations. You don't have the MYSQL access you need if your site is data driven and requires customisation to behave the way you need it to. It only copies what it successfully finds, often meaning broken parts that need to be re-coded to be fixed

The above is why I wrote the article, because I understand there are people like me that want to learn from WA, share the community with the world, and yet still have full control over our websites. Information was not easy to find (for understandable reasons), and I learned how to do this through trial and error.

Simply sharing my learning with anybody that wants to know how to do the same.

growthcoach: I need to get to know you. Why? You are a hell of a lot smarter than me. I know why I said what I said. But to hear you say it sounds a whole lot better than me. I am a bit of a techno-dunce. But I am learning. Thank you for your comments. DAN

DAN: I believe I also need to get to know you. I highly doubt I am smarter than you or anybody here, but thank you none the less. A lot of what I have written comes from expensive mishaps, either monetarily, time-wise, or both. Something tells me you know a lot more than you are letting on. To be honest through my sole mission is to help anyone save time and money while working towards their dreams if they really want to. You taught me that, what I know versus what somebody else knows may also require better explanations, and may have the effect of being more relatable to more people. So thank you. You are in the top 100 in WA, which tells me that you have definitely seen results here. Which lets me know that I have a lot of listening to do, and a heck load of questions. Thank you for acknowledging me. It one of the greatest things a human can do for another human.

growthcoach: You are the MAN! Not because of the nice things you just said to me but due to the fact that you realize that we all have something to learn from each other. You get it. WA works WELL to GREAT because of people like you, MarionBlack (the Aussie girl) and Ignorant (I think from Belgium). People like Marion and Grtz (Ignorant) will stop almost anything they are doing to help someone. In return, they just become more and more successful in their own right.

You have had a fine upbringing and I am sure your parents are very proud of you. Keep up the good work and success will surely follow you directly. Happy Holidays. DAN

I flew through the first course within 2 days and wanted to get WA Premium but since I'm a college student I don't have a good enough income to sustain it indefinitely (for now) and so I was thinking of purchasing the first 30 days ($19) and rapidly consuming the remainder of the course and then return to free user but I just learned that once you get premium you can't go back to free. I'd have to change hosts like you prescribed above. After you changed hosts what access did you gain/loss from wordpress, if any? And do you have an alternative solution for my case that you may know of? I'd appreciate any advice.

Ultimately I may return to WA Premium once the site is making enough money in order to return to such an amazing and helpful group of entrepreneurs. I'm really liking WA.

Hi Ravimi,

The cost aspect I understand. I paid as I viewed joining WA as an investment in my knowledge, personal development, and eventually a second income stream.

Wordpress remains the same where ever you host it, though you need to pay. Depending on the scale of your site, you may be better off staying on the WA host, as all the site security aspects are covered. The reason I moved host was to gain full access to the back of the website, as all themes and plugins have their limitations. I still continue to develope my knowledge on the WA site, as I have not yet found a better hands on learning resource.

Speak to Kyle to see wether he could work something out regards going back to free, so you can continue using siterubrix. Tell me what the outcome is, and if you can not, I will find you a solution.

All the best

Alexander : )

Thanks Alex! I'll let you know how it goes, I just got back from a very late night meeting with on of my writers for the blog and he's on board and excited to start working so it's definitely looking well. I'm meeting with another in a few days and hopefully that goes well too.

Prospects are looking bright, so yes I'll talk to Kyle about that, I never even considered that lol, goes to show how fresh I am haha. Thanks again.

Hey Alex, do you know how I could contact Kyle? Since I don't have a premium account I can't PM him. I don't want to jump on Premium before I feel I can return to starter if needed...I'd also like to ask if he offers a student rate.

I don't think that WA offers a student rate, I will message Kyle for you to ask to make it possible for you to go back to free access, until you have the funds to go back to premium. I will let you know what he says.

Alexander : )

i feel the same way. I am also a university student. I cannot afford to pay after the first 30 days. $49 is too much for me.

This is totally above my head for now, lol! I wish you the best though! :)

Lol, no problem. If you have anything in mind that you can not find answers too, throw it my way. I love challenges, and I love to help.

Alexander ; )

I will remember this when I get in a jam! :) Christa

How are you getting on with your affiliate sites? If i can help out from time to time, lean on me. : )

Thank you! :)

your writing is brilliant and I am totally informed and would do the same thing if in the same situation all the best

Thank you very much for the compliment. I am glad that you found my blog post informative. I had to share my experience as it has been quite a stressful week. I will blog about this experience as it relates to this post, but is more the external influences that created the potential for stress. However, I overcame it. Watch this space. Coming soon. : )

I will all the best
