How To Get More Followers To Instagram

Did you know 28% of the internet use Instagram, which makes that about 400,000,000 active users each month. Also, visual content gets about 40 times more social shares than just plain content. So, as a business, you definitely need to get yourself in front of these people and to build a large following. And, by the way, your target age here is 18-29, which is 55% of the Instagram audience. If your audience is 50 or older, I would suggest using Facebook. Only about 15% of the older generation uses Instagram.

There are several ways to build your following on Instagram, including paying for it, but, I'm just going to cover the ways of doing it without it costing you anything. In fact, we will take it slow and I will cover this in a series of blogs. Don't get over eager. Just like building your online business, we're going to build a solid foundation to launch your Instagram campaign.

Setting Up Your Account

Of course, first you need to set up your account. The important part here is choosing the perfect username. You want it to represent your business. But, should you use your name or business name? Use your name if you have a strong personal brand and use your brand's name if it is more identifiable than your personal name. So, would people look you up by your name or your business name on social media? Go with that answer.

You've already set up an account? Well, that's okay. Instagram allows you to change your username. ONCE. So, make it count!

The Bio

You're only allowed 150 characters in your bio, so you need to make the best of them. Plus, this is the ONLY place you'll be able to have a link to your website. You can't put your links within your posts. You can't add links in your comments. So, you need to add a call to action leading to your website in your bio.

Using my bio as an example, make sure you have all these elements present. You want a short description of what you do. "The best FREE tips and tools to build your online business." Make sure you identify your target audience. "Build your online business" shows this is for those wanting to build a business on the internet. Make sure you include a strong call to action. "Get FREE websites/hosting now!!" Using emojis are good for directing attention to your link. And of course using the word FREE is always an eye catcher. This link should take them to your homepage, landing page or content. You will want it to be trackable. If you use Google Analytics, Instagram won't show up if someone uses your link from there and you won't know where that visitor is coming from. On my next blog, we'll go through setting up a UTM source code to track your traffic from Instagram and I'll show you how to monitor it from Google Analytics.

I am having trouble uploading a profile picture. i select it from my computer but it loads and then disappears. I've tried looking it up but cannot figure out what is going wrong?

Are you trying to add to your profile pic on your Wordpress so your pic shows when you make comments? If so, you have to use Gravatar. Try this and let me know.

So sorry, I meant on Instagram :)

I'm sorry. I should've known that since you asked me here. Senility. :-) I don't really know what's happening on your end. You should just go to edit profile, click on the place where your picture goes and your available files on your computer should open, then just click on the pic you want and it should upload to Instagram.

Yep, every single tutorial walks me through that but nothing will upload! :(

I'm sorry, Emma. Let me do some research for you. What exactly happens when you click on you picture to upload? And what device are you using to upload? phone, laptop, Ipad, tablet? Maybe try doing it from a different device.

Hey! Thanks :) I'm using a laptop. I click on my profile picture, choose upload from computer, choose the image I want and for a minute it seems to be loading, but then it disappears!

ok. will see what I can find out.

Okay, Emma. Have you figured out your profile pic yet? If not, try this in this order
Select profile pic >click on edit profile> click submit> see if its there

I tried this too and it didn't work :(

Weird! I tried it again and it worked !

Haha I'm so silly! I didn't know that it was for mobiles only! Well, that rules that out!

Glad you got it to work! Sorry it took so long

As I pursue Instagram, I will integrate this. Thanks grant.

That is great Grant .. I just started using Instagram with one of our business and websites .. cannot wait to hear more from you. Cheers, William.

That is great information Grant. My first thought is not another one to tackle . :))

Thanks Tim!

Thanks Grant, will follow this up :)

Thanks Grant. I am out of the 19-29 range so haven't had an histogram presence. I will pick up your sound advise and set up an account, already downloaded the app on my phone. Looking forward to your next installment.

Thanks for sharing this Grant...I don't have an Instagram account yet but I am seriously considering it now :)
