Question re Creating Content

I have a question regarding creating content, and here it is:

Is it okay to create a quick version of an article, and get it on my site (for content), and then go back and improve it later, and add affiliate links to it later?

I ask because I heard somewhere that if Google finds a page and likes it (i.e. indexes it and lists it), and then you CHANGE it, well, Google doesn't like that. And, presumably, all the strength of the post might be wiped out, from changing it.

So, what do you think? Harmful or not to change a post once it is indexed?

Hi Greg, Good question and appreciate Shane answer. Thank you for sharing!

I like what Shane has said, but you are not really talking about updating rather about building the article a bit at a time once it has been published. I think you should get your draft pretty well where you want it before you publish.

In my experience, Google doesn't mind you updating your content. It actually helps you gain more trust by adding value if it is mainly a content update.

They know that everything isn't perfect the first time but what I would recommend more is to produce another post with different content about the same topic of the first post then interlink it to the first post.

Google tends to respect that better as you are not linking from page to affiliate, you are linking from page to page then to affiliate.

You do not want to get flagged as a pass though site, Google doesn't like that.

To many affiliate links of even to many uses of the "no follow" in the code will be looked down on.

An even balance is what you are looking for in my opinion.

Here is a post I did about the "no follow" Interlinking example as well by using my post on WA.

I hope this helps,

Shane

Thanks very much, Shane. Great insights. I appreciate your answer, PLUS an additional suggestion of what might be even better!

Will do, and thanks again.

Always glad to help.

Very Good question I am not sure so I will watch this thread. But I do know we are taught to write content naturally let it flow. Build up a following and then monetize it later or at least that is what I gather from the training. But I will watch to hear other folks thoughts.
