Hi. I've been attempting Internet Marketing for a long time. I am now ready to stop chasing get-rich-quick programs, and build out a real internet business.

Interests? I enjoy traveling and discovering other cultures and locales. So I'm building my site in the Adventure Travel niche! AdventureTravelPros.com

I have visited many different countries, and served as a missionary in 5 (both short term and long term). I speak 3 languages, and have studied about a dozen more. (English, Spanish and Russian. Currently learning Chinese.)

That's about all I have to share now. No wait -- there's my reason why. I have 3 kids in school. I want to be able to give them a lot more than I have so far. I want financial freedom. To be able to travel, to do missions work, to give to my church and to enjoy this life to the fullest.

I look forward to interacting with others here at WA. It seems like a real, warm-hearted and successful group of people online, and that's what I want to be part of.

Thanks, Greg

Addendum to my Profile. Jan.10, 2017

I didn't want to make my profile too long, or take up too much of your time, reading about me. I think what I have written above is sufficient for an introduction. So, thanks for reading.

But, for anyone who may wish to know more, I have some other things to share.

For one, in regard to missionary work, mentioned above. I don't know what you think of that, or what images that conjures up in your mind, but let me tell you what I mean by that.

When we (me and my friends and colleagues) go in to countries as missionaries, we don't go in to bulldoze their customs, culture or beliefs. We don't tell them they are wrong. We go in as learners, as people who want to know them, understand their culture and beliefs and way of life.

We also want to help them in practical ways, if we can, such as helping to provide clean water, better crop science, or teach English, or other practical means of helping. Then, we also offer to explain to them who Jesus is. Many have not heard of him, or do not understand what his life, teachings, death and resurrection mean for them. We want to give them that option.

People all over the world want to improve their lives, thru better business, better homes, better food, better education, etc. And we think giving them the chance to understand who Jesus is, and giving them the option to follow him as their lord and savior, if they want to, is an equally valid way of serving people in many countries, helping them to improve their lives.

Those are my thoughts on missions.

Secondly, I want to recommend to you a person for inspiration, teaching and motivation. It is a woman named Terri Savelle Foy. She has a Youtube channel, with a ton of GREAT 8 minute videos on it. I like that length. You can fully develop a topic, idea or theme in that time, but it doesn't take a full hour or 30 minutes like a lot of teachers/ preachers do.

Terri is great at talking about creating a dream or goal [relevant for those of us at WA], and going for it. If you want to listen to someone talk about moving ahead, succeeding, getting out of a rut, and making a difference with your life, from a godly point of view, I highly recommend Terri to you. (Just search her name on YouTube, you can't miss her, Terri Savelle Foy.)

Note: don't be shocked by her voice. She kinda talks like a young girl, not a confident, world-changing adult-- which is ironic, because that is what she is. But, her content is what makes her worth listening to.

I hope this addendum has been of some value to you. I wanted to share it with those on WA who are interested. I really like this community, and am becoming more and more involved in learning from and teaching in this community, so I wanted to share a little more about myself here.

Well, that's it for now. I welcome your thoughts, feedback, and responses to my point of view.

I have a question regarding creating content, and here it is:

Is it okay to create a quick version of an article, and get it on my site (for content), and then go back and improve it later, and add affiliate links to it later?

I ask because I heard somewhere that if Google finds a page and likes it (i.e. indexes it and lists it), and then you CHANGE it, well, Google doesn't like that. And, presumably, all the strength of the post might be wiped out, from changing it.

So, what do you think? Harmful or not to change a post once it is indexed?

I asked a similar question before and the answer I got was from a "seasoned" blogger was this:

Yes, we can always update and optimize old posts with low rankings. We can even replace keywords but unless they are still relevant and similar to the title of the post. This shows activity and Google likes it.

It is also suggested to fetch your site through your Google Analytics‎ so Google will know of the changes quicker. And, in 30 days from then, you should see an improvement if you have made the right changes.

Now, to answer your question, and this is my opinion only, I think it is possible to build a quick 300-500 word article and then come back to update it with affiliate links and whatever needs to be done. I would want to keep that post on my top TO-DOs if I haven't added any affiliate links since that would be "money left on the table" as Kyle puts it.

I hope this helps answer your question. Let me know if there is anything else!

Thank you :)

That's a good question! Because I often will go back and update the content of a page. I didn't know that Google didn't like that. I suppose it depends on whether or not you are improving the content of your page. I hope that when I update the content of a page, it's because it will improve it and hopefully Google would like that.

Hope this helps!

Hi Greg. I am able to relate to several experiences and goals you have expressed. I have chased the wind with MLM and other schemes to no avail. The goal of missionary type lifestyle is my dream for the Autumn of my life. I look forward to Buddhist activities in India, Nepal and many other nations as well as in the US.
I wish you much success.

Greetings Greg!

So.....you're a Newbie!!! And I see you've already gotten a few shiny looking buttons, lol.

It's funny that I'm reading your profile today, in which you talk about being able to travel more on mission trips: just a few days ago, I thought of a new term: Servcations! We have Vacations, Staycations, so why not Servcation - combining one's love to travel, but being able to serve others along the way, in those countries! With vacations, we're just looking to get something, but with servcations, we can give and get! It may not catch on like staycations, but I like it, lol

All the best with pursuing your passions Greg!

Google DOES like updates. They want relevant information!

What can get you in trouble though is if you are already ranking well, then completely revamp the article. It doesn't mean the article gets "worse" with updates, but it may no longer meet Google's criteria to rank for that specific keyword.

But it's absolutely fine to go back and edit. I do it all the time. I wouldn't get caught in the trap of throwing up drafts though, because they can be a pain in the rear to go back and edit in bulk!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Hi Nathaniell,

I did come straight here and join after reading one of your excellent articles on scams. I am quite excited to be here. Have already worked thru the first 3 Getting Started videos and am looking forward to making a lot of progress fast.

Thanks for the welcome, and as I have questions, I will definitely hit up the community, and/or you.

Merry Christmas,

Greg

P.S. For my niche, I'm thinking of 'adventure travel.' What do you think?

Adventure travel is a a good start, but a little broad! "Who" is going on this adventure? What is your "perfect customer". the reason I ask is because a 50 year old woman and a 20 year old man will have a different idea of what an adventure is.

With a more targeted website visitor, you can write content to appeal to that specific group. It helps with sales conversions and traffic.

Hey Nathaniell,

I'm getting ready to make the following post. Before I do: 1) anything to add, edit? and 2) can you, by chance, supply with the exact quote, from somewhere on your site?! Thanks, Greg

Anyway, your input on this will be welcome before I publish it.

...

How Did I Decide on My Niche?

I'll tell you what I chose, and more importantly, how I arrived at it.

I was not sure, at all, what niche I was going to want to start a site around.

But following somebody's advice, I decided to write out all the things I was interested in on a blank sheet of paper. It came to about 30 items.

But the one I chose was the last two things I wrote down. I wrote 'travel' then I think I wrote 'skydiving.' That's when it hit me, I will choose "Adventure Travel" as my niche!

And I did, and it's going well.

But I got to tell you how I got there, for it to be most helpful to you.

I got here via reading Nathaniell's blog, OneMoreCupof-Coffee. It is a review of all kinds of 'internet business offers' and 'make money online' things. I was reading a review of "Deadbeat Affiliate Marketing" (sounds good, right?) and finally came to the conclusion that I should really have another look at Wealthy Affiliate, instead of buying and trying another one of those $7 WSO (with multiple OTO and upsells).

BUT, the thing that got me to try WA was this comment at the bottom of one of Nathaniell's review...

Well, I can't find the quote right now, but it was something like, "Find something that you are passionate about to make a site around, or at least something that you would enjoy researching."

It was that last phrase that got me!!

I wasn't excited writing about any of the 29 things I wrote down (things like racquetball, reading, coffee, the Bible, etc). Those are just things I know, like and do. But I couldn't see making a site about any of them. But with the thought "or something you would at least enjoy doing research on" in my mind, I thought, Aha! I don't really know much about Adventure Travel, but I sure would enjoy learning about it, and I have!

So that's my story of how I finally chose a niche that is right for me.

Sounds like a great post Greg - I'm glad something I said inspired you! Were you thinking of posting it inside WA or on your website?

I'm not sure what the exact quote is, but that's pretty close. Good enough LOL. I say that phrase a lot, because choosing a niche is tough, especially in the beginning.

Thanks. I am planning to post here on WA. Yeah, like you said above, choosing a niche can be tough, so I thought a post on the topic might be helpful. It is a very helpful community we are part of, so thought I'd pitch in. Greg
