What is a Belief? And How You Can Change What You Believe?

Due to recent events in my life. I've decided to really double down on applying things that I know and have studied extensively about the Law of Attraction. The trick to Law of Attraction is first knowing about how it works of course but for me its been in applying it consistently and for the right reasons. I'm writing this down as a reminder to myself but in also in the hopes it will help others. It's worked for me in the past. I hope it'll work for you too.

I plan on making this a series so I'm not sure if this could be considered a tutorial since i really want to apply this to the Wealthy Affiliate Program. and the Super Affiliates in particular. Working hard and smart is one thing but adding a little Law of Attraction can't hurt can it? In fact maybe attitude could be the make or break factor for all of us. Let me know your opinion on if you think I should apply this to training section since there are so many who know so much more about the technical aspects of the WA program, I thought I could add what I know about which is about the Law of Attraction.

When I was in High School. I remember coming across something in the Bible about how the faith of a mustard seed could move mountains.

A number of really life altering questions and conclusions came from that little blurb:

  1. That I must not have much faith
  2. Faith can get me what I want
  3. How do I get more faith?

Number 3 was the one that got me searching for the better part of my life and what I found was that very few people could give me a decent answer. The Christians couldn't explain it, the Buddhists couldn't explain it, and my psychology degree is in the storage room somewhere.

But I came across one person or I might say persons that did explain it in a way that was tangible and actionable. They were Jerry and Esther Hicks otherwise known as Abraham-Hicks. Even then it took me more years than I care to admit to peice it all together and I'm going to share it all right here for you and to remind myself too. I'm newly committed to following this as part of my business making life and I know it will help you too if you apply it consistently.

"A Beleif Is a Thought You Keep Thinking"

Yup that's it. That's what a belief is. But how is that so? Isn't a belief a statement of fact in some way? Or at least something of which you are strongly assured?

Nope

It isn't if you can for a moment entertain a gigantic idea about perception Vs 'Reality" and that EVERYTHING IS A THOUGHT. By reality, I mean tangible solid things like a table or the computer you are reading this on.... If you can wrap you head around the idea that maybe...just maybe...ALL THINGS (even tangible objects) are a belief or perhaps rather a very strong thought, then you have something the Buddhists consider to be closer to the matter (no pun intended).

After that you have to ask a really thorny question:

"How Can I Change My Thoughts if What I Think is True?"

The thorny aspect of this question is really more like "Why would I change my thoughts If what I think is true?" Well if you think you are an unworthy or incapable person for example, you might want to challenge that notion. And if you believe what you think manifests then you will be at odds with you own beliefs about what you think a thought can do.

I know that was a brain twister. But no tricks here. If you think something is a fact then that is what it is. If you think something is you own thought then you can do something about it. But first you have to start treating ALL facts as thoughts. Then realize there are some basic facts about thoughts lol:

  1. A thought will attract thoughts that are of similar kind. In other words, thoughts think. This is the basis of the 'law of attraction'...thoughts attract like thoughts.
  2. For a thought to attract another thought it has to be held purely for 17 seconds. And for every 17 seconds afterwards those thoughts will double in like wise fashion.
  3. A thought that is thought for long enough will become a habitual or chronic thought and that is referred to as "momentum"
  4. A thought with enough momentum will become more and more vivid until it becomes a belief. And once that happens things that match the thought in kind in what we consider to be the physical world will start to appear.

So to change thoughts you just have to practice them in a way that matches a feeling of belief.

In that way you can theoretically change anything you believe.

And according to some, if you change what you believe and you can change everything in your world.

There is a little more to this whole thing and I'll get to those things in future articles. I'm not sure how many posts it's going to take but in the next article I'll talk about desire in relation to belief and that is where things really come together in a big and interesting way. But for now 'think' about it :)

I believe I will change. Thank you.

Beliefs are ‘perceived’ truths and values tied to emotions held in the subconscious mind. As you said, beliefs are thoughts. Thoughts are mighty powerful things. William James, the Father of Modern Psychology said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can change his life by altering his attitude of thought.”

Earl Nightengale, radio celebrity, author, and motivational speaker, in his book, “The Strangest Secret” has told us: “We are what we think we are. We become what we think about most. We act according to our beliefs. We always do what we believe we can do. We always do what is most important to us.”

Such controlling beliefs, values, and emotions are held in the subconscious mind. If our conscious thoughts are in conflict with our subconscious beliefs, our subconscious thoughts always win out. If you want to win, but (subconsciously) think you can’t, it’s almost certain you won’t.

When you realize that many of your self-limiting beliefs are perceived truths based on assumptions and feelings and neitrher facts nor reality, you understand that such beliefs are only opinions. Opinions can be changed by a matter of choice.

Believing is acting “as if” it is so. Life is a series of self-fulling prophecies based on our opinion of ourselves, our self-image. If we see ourselves as a loser, a victim of circumstances, we will behave in a manner to fulfill that belief. If we see ourselves as a winner, in control of our lives and how we respond to circumstances, we behave in a way to fulfill that belief.

As we choose our thoughts, we shape our beliefs, our actions, our destiny. Let us choose our thoughts wisely; choose our thoughts well. Our lives depend on it.

Regards, Art

Thanks AJ!
