How to Make Sure You Don't Waste Your Time in SEO

You're working out the WA Affiliate Bootcamp.

You have identified a few keywords you think are good.

Let's say...

"Honest Wealthy Affiliate Review"

Staring at the Keyword Quality Indicator, you're convinced this would make a good article and would probably land you in the top of the search engine results pages like Google's.

Now, here's the reality...

If that's your keyword, the only way you can occupy the #1 or #2 spot is by dislodging those already occupying them.

To get the #1 spot, you have to kick out nomorebsreviews .com.

Are you aware how old these sites are? What status do they have in terms of on-page and off-page SEO?

Whenever I have a keyword and noticed websites like StealthSecrets .com or onemorecupof-coffee .com already occupying top spots for that keyword, I ask myself...

"How can I dislodge them out?"

If I can't figure out how, I change plan.

It's a tough game, you know.

And did you know that it can be compared to a pie?

A pie that is not expanding.

That is unless Google decides they will make their first page display 20 results instead of just 8 or 10.

But for now, it is fixed to 8 to 10 only. (10 when there are no sponsored ads displayed at the top).

Thinking about this, I realized something...

The pie has 10 slices only for 10 persons. And to get your slice of the pie (one of the top 10 spots), one has to be kicked out so you can be admitted in and get your slice.

That brought me back to what one SEO guru have said before...

"If you can't find your work listed on the first page of Google, then you have wasted your time."

Now, did you get the message?

The only way to not waste your time, is to make sure you get to the first page of Google.

Yes, you can still get traffic even if you're on the 2nd page... but the volume of traffic you can get is not as good as when you hit the 1st page.

Now, the question is, do you have the guts to dislodge the existing ones?

Check your keywords. Check your competitors. Size them up. Can you beat them down and take their throne?

That's what I realized while working my chosen niche. This SEO world is not for the faint-hearted, because this is a merciless game. The pie isn't expanding! And just for 8 to 10 people only.

Sounds discouraging?

Nope.

Right after posting this blog post, I know our experts here would come to the rescue and comfort us with words,

"Hey, we have good lessons here, follow them and you'll win."

Or...

"Gomer, just look for a less competitive keyword or less competitive niche where you're the king. Rule your world, and never mind theirs."

Wew! That's how fortunate we are here, WA members. Our competitors out there don't have the education and support we have.

But, did I touch your reality?

Still worrying whether you'll make it to the top?

Then, wait for the replies of our experts! They will comfort you.

I'm sorry...

I'd rather make people aware of the tough reality out there in the "make money online niche" than post positive thoughts everyday pretending we're in heaven.

This game is tough.

Be tough.

And be good.

When things seem not working, ADJUST.

Re-enter, and then DOMINATE the game.

Obsess yourself with that top spot.

Grab from others.

Take their throne.

Cheers!

What determine your ranking on page one or on top of the pie are more than keywords. Yes, Keyword itself is key!

But Google knowing you to being an authority in your niche count more. And a lot of things define who is an authority is. . . .

Keep working.

Cheers

John.

Thank you for this well-thought out post, with very much truth!

Cath

The pie is being opened for every ant and every ant that goes there has always a share.

Hahaha good illustration you just gave, Jimmy! :)

I wish we're as small as ants, so everyone will have a fair share of that 10-slices SERPs pie.

You may not be able to expand the pie but you can put more quality content filling in the pieces!

Yes, Daddy Michael. Filling more quality content so we can grab a slice of the pie! And preferably that slice on the top with the most filling! :)

It's a bit like dog eat dog, or survival of the fittest. It's no joke, but nothing is impossible.

I like that spirit.

"Nothing is impossible."

Yessss...that lives on

I like your post, that is being honest, telling the truth that's all--I agree with you you can choose a keyword with good stats but your page not ranked --there is more than the keyword only-- it's a mixed bag

Yes, I agree. Mixed bag. And it's not heaven out there. Take it like you're going to a battle with big chance of getting killed. So, be good and ferocious.

This adds a new perspective and motivating kick in the pants :) Thank you.

You're welcome, and thanks for reading, Cristina. I hope this inspire you to become good at SEO. Dominate what you can dominate! :)

This is a great motivational post. Thank you Gomer for it!

Great encouragement, Gomer! I don't like having to think about SEO all the time, but I know it's extremely important! Thanks so much for the interesting way of looking at it:)
Blessings:)

Trevor

Thanks. I hope this post inspire others here to become FEROCIOUS when it comes to SEO.

I checked mine, and I realized I'm wasting my time with my niche, with little hope of dislodging my competitors.

So, now, I'm adjusting. I want to have a good place in the SERPs!
