Be mindful of your words. Stereotyping

In this day and age it is all to common that many people speak without thinking. An incident of just such nature occurred at my regular place of employment today and I was quite offended by it. As many of you already know, I suffer from Fibromyalgia among other conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis. I also have a website about different disorders and conditions people experience and natural remedies available to help them deal with these conditions, All Thanks to the Wonderful training here at WA and all the helpful friends/family here.

During my normal night shift at work last night I overheard a conversation between two of the younger generation co workers I work with. During the course of their conversation one made the comment that anyone can always tell a former meth addict because all former meth addicts now suffer from Fibromyalgia.. The fact is Fibromyalgia is not linked to Meth use or any drug use it is linked to Arthritis, and when I confronted these younger workers and advised them that I have never used Drugs and I suffer from Fibromyalgia, they snickered at me and walked away. So I just wanted to get it off my chest and share with all my WA family, we all have the right to our own thoughts and Opinions as well as Freedom of Speech, but stereotyping hurts those who are stereotyped and grouped into a category they don't belong in.

So, that being said, I encourage all when out and about, be mindful of your words, as you never know who may be in ear shot of your conversation and be hurt or offended. Personal opinions without facts to back it up should remain unspoken personal opinions. Because in fact, children much to young to be experiencing the pain of arthritis and Fibromyalgia actually suffer from these disorders, many so young they don't even know what Meth is let alone have used it to develop Fibromyalgia. Thanks for reading and letting me speak my mind on this topic. Anyone who would like to learn more about Arthritis, Fibromyalgia or other medical conditions including Juvenile Arthritis, feel free to visit my blog on my website, and feel free to sign up for my newsletter. Have a Great and Blessed weekend everyone.

Shannon, words are power. The bible tells us to be mindful of the words that come out of your mouth. Where I work, you can be disciplined or fired about comments you make about your co-workers. A lesson I learned a while back. I feel what you are saying.

Exactly Ricardo, often we forget what the Bible tells us when we speak these days and many don't even follow the Bible. But through Faith or Just plain morals people really should learn to be mindful of what they say. Hope that lesson learned awhile back for you wasn't to painful a lesson. Have a Great week

Shannon thank you. That lesson I learned a while back is one of life lessons that I won't forget.

Yes, Shannon, you are so right. I have family members and friends with fibromyalgia and I can promise you and anyone else that not one of these people have EVER used meth. My Aunt doesn't like to take any drugs. She even has a hard time with herbal supplements! Fibromyalgia, along with arthritis and numerous other illnesses, has been shown to be an autoimmune disease. Oh well, stupid people say stupid things. Oh, was I stereotyping? Please tell them I'm sorry.

I hate it when people are mean to other people!

LOL Dmorrow, you are right Fibromyalgia, arthritis and many other disorders are autoimmune disorders and have no connection what so ever to drug use.

Thank you!
Ed

Insult to injury eh. As you say you never who is listening and what journey they are on.

Exactly Pisquali.

How absurd! The people I know with Fibromyalgia (know a few) are not at all Meth addicts. Never heard that stereotype but yes best to think before you speak! :).

Tell me about it. This was the first time I ever heard this and it floored me completely. Thanks for the follow, followed you back.
