Hi, I was advertising on FB for fanpage likes and I really did very well in terms of costs per like. It got suspicious when I found out, that the more likes I got the engagement on my page didnt rise - at all.
In the end I found out, that there are FB Clickfarms (thats how they are called), where cheap staff is clicking like crazy to reach the amounts of clicks purchased. I dont know in which exent FB knows of these clickfarms, if they are approved by FB or anything. I am NOT saying FB is cheating (disclaimer, right?). Of course I was targeting Countries like Bangladesh or India and the like.
I thought at least I would get REAL people clicking on my fanpage. They were real, but only clicking every ad they got so see even from fake fb accounts. I got frustrated in the end...
Other than that I havent had any experiences advertising on FB. I will look into that sooner or later again ;o)

I targeted the entire United States since my weather page was national. I don't remember many of the details, but I do remember optimizing for page likes and enticing the user to "like" the page.

Yes!!! I'found a great Wordpress Plugin to poste picture with a URL in Facebook. With it you can also poste URL which are not accepted from Facebook. (ex. jvzoo.com)... I just tested it!
