Question on the different keyword results

Hi there. I have a question about the google keyword tool compared to both the WA and jaxxy. I have a keyword and in both the WA and jaxxy tools it has similar results but when I type it into google (using exact match) it is seriously less and I mean seriously, it just seems way too much difference. Just wondering if anyone has any theories on this.

Hi everyone!
I didn't had the time yet to fully introduce myself and communicate a lot with the other members here, but that's gonna change in the near future! :D
But for now i have a quick question about 'keywords' ;
Is it wisely to translate your keywords to reach a greater audience or does google and other search engines translate that automatically for you?

Hi Carson, Do you know,I kind of find what you say here to be a polar opposite to what you and Kyle generally say about Google.

Generally you say, abide by Google and its guidelines and trust that they will treat you well. Yet here, you are saying that Google is untrustworthy.....either in their technology or that they are deliberately "doctoring" the search results...

By the way, in the search results that "fretfury" is referring to, googles results are not inflated, its the Jaaxy/WA tool showing the hyper high end of the search results.

Cheers, phil

Cheers Carson. Yea I sorted that out and the QSR is under 350 ( I even did the scroll to the last page buzz just to double check), but it's the massive difference in monthly searches that has me confused. I used the exact match because I am under the impression that WA and Jaxxy use this and like I said in my previous post the difference is over 100,000. I trust Jaxxy and WA to give me good results and they have both been consistent for this keyword for the last few weeks. I just wanted a bit of advise as the difference just seems so unreal (100, 000 and something compared to 120)

P.S it's good to get such quick replies, thanks

Google's traffic estimates are bogus and inflated. They give you absolutely zero data that you can use in regards to searches and expected traffic. Traffic is the least important aspect of keyword research though.

100, 1000, 10000, Is there really any difference? If one keyword gets 100 searches vs another that gets you 1000, does that make the 1000 keyword any better? ...not necessarily.

You should always pick your keywords based on two things:

1) Relevancy
2) QSR (website competition)

The traffic is irrelevant. You are much better off choosing a keyword that gets 100 searches a month, but has low QSR and is VERY relevant.. Than a keyword that gets 1,000,000 searches a month that is broad.

Don't get caught up on traffic estimates because they are just estimates and they do not determine the quality of a keyword.

Doing an exact match at Google does not get you the "competing" websites count, that number is completely wrong and has always thrown people off.

If you want to do this manually and confirm in Google, you would nee to do a search in "QUOTES", then scroll to the very last page of results. On that very last page you will see the REAL count of competing websites Google is listing in the search results.

The number that you're looking for is how many sites Google is listing in their results, not how many they have in their index. If Google ranks less than 400 (preferably 350) websites in their search results, then you'll have a very good chance of being ranked on the 1st page. That's what "QSR" or "quoted search result" means and is the all important data that you can only get from the WA keyword tool and Jaaxy.

I use JAAXY and I look for low competition and relevancy but I will pick one over another if it has more traffic. Are you saying I am wrong in this? I should basically ignore traffic. What if it has 80 hits but is the only one that is really relevant with low competition. I have been sticking with over 100. John

I see I should be looking at that expected traffic. J

Cool thanks for the advice, I'm probably just gonna take the gamble. $10 isn't much however the time it takes to set up a campaign can be, but I trust WA, Jaxxy and what I've been taught here to look for in keywords so I'll take the punt.

Cheers for the reply. Yea I get that, but the difference in numbers is about 100,000. I know the high number keywords aren't usually the go but this one fits the criteria of a QSR under 350. As I said both jaxxy and WA are consistent with this result but google is way less at only 120 monthly for exact match. I've been tracking this keyword for a while to make sure it's not too good to be true and have a domain lined up. But the difference is massive considering I thought most people use google. Again any advice would be awesome

Thats a big difference, however, I think its worth the gamble. I've had similar situations in the past and 95% of the time it works out in my favor. With such high numbers it might not be as different as you might think, of course, I'd have to do more research but to me it sounds like its worth a gamble, $10 isn't much of a risk with huge potential awards.

Well, Google looks at just Google, Jaaxy looks at multiple sources such as Yahoo and Bing as well. At least thats my understanding.

For traffic estimates we look at multiple sources and do our best to estimate how much traffic you can actually expect. However, the QSR (competing websites) is data from Google's search results.
