New Year:

Anyone Can Have a Chance for a Do-Over

The New Year for many of us is like hitting the reset button.

Everyone knows the unwelcome site of a browser that just won't open. We sit and watch that little gray circle spin and spin - ugh - so frustrating. Many will give up and shut down, reset the router, reboot the computer, or a combination of the above depending on how desperate you feel. We do the same come New Year's Eve. For many of us, we see it as one big ritual to hit the reset button on our lives. The NYE party is not a coincidence. We all share in the need to have a fresh start, and this is our opportunity. We may even squeeze in, one last time, that thing that burdens us down in our everyday lives. This final fall from Grace typically comes with a promise that upon January first, we have a fresh start and life will be different.
No right-minded individual could make such a pact with themselves without some fanfare.

So how do we choose to ring in the New Year, or perhaps you prefer to bring in the New Year? How to usher in the New Year is one debate we don't need to struggle with, as both are equally correct. Feeling the need to bring in the New Year, ringing it in, please feel free to do so.
Once we have identified those flaws or self-improvements and made the appropriate pact with our conscience, we need to mark the event. We wait for the magic hour when the Ball drops. Of course, we mean our nemesis, The Time Ball! The countdown is on to the stroke of Midnight, and finally, the virtual Ball drops. Just like a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon, we emerge free of said transgression or free to launch our new venture.

No pact would be complete without sealing the deal with a kiss. The origins of this tradition came from the belief that the first person you met to begin your New Year would determine your fortune or misfortune. As time passed, we decided to dispense with the suspense and just kiss someone for good luck. Now freed of all that held us back in the "old year," marked with fanfare, and a kiss for good luck we embark on our chance to make a fresh start. It is never too late to start a do-over.

I hope you all find your New Year a refreshing experience and a chance for a do-over if that's what you desire. My family has had a very challenging 2017 but we are together and (Deep Breath) ready for more in 2018. Kisses......

Great Post Michelle! Yes! I need a "Do-Over" and this upcoming year is yet again, going to be a refreshing new start!

Cindy I really like how you put, "yet again." That's how I feel. I remember crushing 2016, now I'm pulverizing 2017 - GRRRR!
LOL

I love this post, Michelle. We all do share the need to have a fresh start. It is what gives people the hope that they can become better and throw off the guilt that lingers from the previous year.

Whatever we do, let's hope that we all make smart goals and keep our promises to others and to ourselves.

Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and yours!
David
