A Smorgasbord to Feast On.

An Alaskan Cruise

A couple of years ago we traveled to Vancouver then boarded a Celebrity Cruise Ship to explore the inside Passage to Alaska.

It was an amazing trip and one I would happily do again. Everything about it was beyond description. The rooms, the facilities, the shops, the entertainment and of course the food. That is what I am going to write about here. The food. The abundance of wonderful gourmet food beautifully presented to tantalize the most discerning palettes. The choice, the quality and the quantity was mind blowing.

Gourmet Mash Up

However what struck me was the way some people ate like it was to be their last meal on planet earth. Their plates would be piled high with a bit of this, a bit of that and a bit of everything else. All of these wonderful dishes so lovingly created by the chefs would be all thrown into together to re-form into a jumble of flavors so that the original intended recipe could no longer be determined. They became no more than a gourmet mash up.

I have worked in hospitality myself and all too often watched in horror as all my unique dishes would be all combined on a plate, sometimes piled on top of each other. I wondered why I bothered to go to so much trouble in the first place. Then when it is time to clean up you find a pile of dinner plates with enough left on them to feed a small army. This all gets thrown to the chooks and again I wonder, why did I present them with so many delicious dishes when all they did was mix it together then throw a large amount away.

I soon figured it was better to plate up and serve each guest a well planned meal which would satisfy their appetites, allow them to taste each component and leave a relatively clean plate.

Wealthy Affiliate is a bit like a Smorgasbord

In thinking about this it struck me that Wealthy Affiliate is a bit like a smorgasbord. There is so much material in here to totally crowd our minds and get lost in the files of our brains. We then need to defragment our brains to get some order in our thinking processes.

If we can take time and focus fully on each element of the training one gem at a time rather than racing ahead trying to grab everything at once we will not suffer mental indigestion and will make better use of each new thing we learn. There will be less waste and ultimately we will achieve optimum results.

Adding to the smorgasbord of goodies within Wealthy Affiliate, many of us ( me included) are guilty of allowing our eyes to feast on some of the offerings outside, what they call shiny objects. Then we wonder why we seem to be going round in circles and not really progressing.

Folks we need to be disciplined enough to focus on the best and leave the rest. The best is all here in Wealthy Affiliate. I have determined now to try to remain focused on all that is on offer here, one lesson at a time.

Well said and so true !

What a beautiful analogy!
I agree with you, WA is a big smorgasbord,
and we can all find our slice of the cake.

Have a great day!
Ingrid

Love it. I am guilty of rushing here and there to a variety of trainings and not focusing on the one I am supposed to be doing. It doesn't help that you get notifications about the various ones just completed. I must focus more and get on with my training and ignore all the others until later. Trouble is, they are so tempting.

I think we are all guilty of this. It takes real discipline and focus to rein it in. Thanks for commenting.

Marvelous analogy, and one that it was good for greedy me, gobble gobble, to read!

Thanks Rosana. We are all a bit like that rushing in to try and get the best pickings.

Hi Freisia, thank you for a great post. I am just looking for that secret sauce to make this smorgasbord more delightful than it already is.

Please don't get me wrong, I love being here

Thank you Michael. The sauce here is the community. They make it so much more palatable.

So true -- it is difficult to absorb it all at once. Works better if you just bite off a little taste at a time.

You are so right Fran, but we all tend to have eyes bigger than our bellies.

An excellent approach to take. Singular focus can reap the benefits.

Thanks Twack. Ijust think we can suffer overload if we bite off too much at once.

Totally agree. I'm lucky that my brain has a 'relevancy' filter...which works most of the time...gets me in trouble with birthdays though.

Excellent points!

I like to call WAn a "Moveable Feast" !
Something for everyone, just when you wasn't or need it!
Similar thoughts! Ha!
Barb

True, its all in how you look at it. Cheers
