Stuff you should now from the start

I have learned so much just in 2 months at Wealthy Affiliate. The training is so easy to understand. The help and support from the coaches, technical support and the community are amazing. But as the training moving forward and after I got my website up and running, getting better to write quality content, there is something I want to get out of my chest.

Things I wish I did immediately after the website was live and running (not necessarily in order, but before I moved on to write any content. At least with some sort of links).

  • Start with a money making niche from the beginning, or at least a niche where you have possibilities to write a review, or promote Wealthy Affiliate naturally. Even if you start with the basic course. I will go in depth with this later, so keep on reading.
  • Install the Sassy Social Share plug-in for sharing your content on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterrest from the first post. Even the about me post.
  • Install the headers and footers plug-in for ease up the confirmation process with affiliate programs
  • Install pretty links plug-in to make your links more reader friendly. Note: I think I saw some place online that Amazon affiliate program don't allow pretty links, but I'm not 100% sure about this one....
  • Register your website for Google Search Console once the website is live. But not used it before the course call for it. But at least get trough with the setup.
  • Make sure that the website follows the Google adsense policy and you have some traffic to your website before even apply for it. I wasn't approved when I first applied. Haven't got around to applying again. But first at this time being I feel it's time.
  • Have some traffic to your website and have a good amount of contents before applying for Amazon affiliate program. That's because you need to have a sale within 180 days if I remember correctly? There is something you need to remember, or they will terminate the agreement. At least you have the possibility to apply for later stage.

And now I want to step back to my first point of why I wished I started out with a making money niche. I'm glad I started with the basic course and went trough it step by step. You are definitely learning the basics here and things you need to know.

However, I choose a traveling niche in regards the Wealthy Affiliates concept of helping people and provide good quality content. I was satisfied with my work at the end of the basic course. At least considering I have never been seriously about making a website, or how to do things the best way to get traffic and so on.

But when I was in the groove in the beginning of my travel niche I saw I missed out the opportunity to promote Wealthy Affiliate. So the only thing was to Focus on my traveling niche and begin a new niche once I was finished with my basic training.

When I finished it I have produced 3 pages and 26 posts. That's good enough so far I think in about 2 months period.

And so The boot camp begun. After 8 posts and 2 pages, I write this blog post. I'm currently the last phase of level 2. And now I see that all the work I could spare myself from. The boot camp course shows a better way to write a review, and offering a bonus into the review of Wealthy Affiliate. Sure, the basic course covers the freebie, and email marketing, Which I haven't getting the grasp of yet.

The boot camp also give you advice to back up your work and give you knowledge of keeping your records of your affiliate links and the pages on your website.

So now I'm trying to go trough 34 posts and 5 pages total to make sure they are shortened with pretty links, every post are linked internally where it's natural and making and overview of the affiliate links.

Either way, I think the most important thing now and the most productive is to just leave it for now, forget my traveling niche for a while, and keep going and focus on my making money website. It's mostly going to be my main niche in the end either way.

So If someone has some input towards how important it is to have pretty links and overview sheet of your links, please let me know. Maybe I can save myself from some work. Oh yeah, I see that I need to write better reviews on my travel page as well. More work.....

If you follow these tips, you will save your self from some extra work.

  • Make an in depth and good review with an offer, or a freebie from the start.
  • Make a spreadsheet of your affiliate links from the first link you share.
  • Use pretty link on your first affiliate link you provide
  • Share your content on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterrest from the start.
  • Forget about Amazon affiliate program and Google adsense until you have a good amount of traffic and quality content.

It's not my intention to recommend to start with boot camp at first before the basic course. It's not necessarily to discard the idea of different kind of niche than how to make money. But be careful to paint yourself into a corner if you want to move into boot camp after the basic course.

If you know you want to promote Wealthy Affiliate, you can start it right away in the basic course anyway. You have endless opportunity to leverage on contents and affiliate links that already is in place.

My game plan now is to follow the boot camp to the end and then have a new round to my already existing traveling niche and page and implement the things I have learned. And new round to the boot camp on my money making niche.

A short and a long term plan.

Do you have any comments to this, or advises? Please let me know

All the best,

Fred

Great job Fred, well done. Have a good day.

Thanks. You too as well.

Fred, great experience you are sharing. There are some who are orderly while others that thrive in chaos. I guess different strokes for different folks.

We just have to have a game plan. Even chaos has some sort of order in it.

Great message Fred. I guess a lot of people are like me, they would like to see that affiliate marketing works before they actually go into the bootcamp training. Jim

Even though I haven't made any money, yet, I have a feeling it will work with time. But we also need a lot of patience, knowledge on how to do things and take the right steps in the right time. I just wish I have started with how to make money from the start. The road has been easier that way. And then specialize in other niche after completing of both of the training courses.

Thanks for posting this Fred. Lots of great advice here. I've been aware that there were parts I was missing on knowing about, as I do the basic training but I've accepted that I can't possibly take it all in now. Bootcamp will fill the gaps, although my niche won't work to promote WA.

I'm trying to look and plan ahead as I write. But I do know I will have to go back and polish my posts in the future. I think no short cuts for me.

You have made me sure of my goals and plans. Thanks.

Lily

You very welcome. It's good you started with the basic training and it will provide everything you you need to know. But it's few things that should be emphasize little more. There is no shortcut that will help. Only hard work and dedication.
