Happy New Year, WA! Let's Rock In 2024!
(Image made with DALL-E3)
Hi, WA Friends!
So it's getting close (in the USA) to the big night when the clock strikes twelve and the "ball drops," leaving the old year behind and bringing in 2024!
A Little History Of The Times Square Ball
People started celebrating New Year's Eve in Times Square (New York) as early as 1904. However, it was not until 1907 that the New Year's Eve Ball descended from the flagpole atop One Times Square. Over the years, seven versions of the Ball have been designed to signal the start of the New Year.
Fun Facts About The Ball
Taken from the Times Square Official Website:
The Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, and weighs 11,875 pounds.
- The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 crystal triangles that vary in size, and range in length from 4 ยพ inches to 5 ยพ inches per side.
- Each crystal triangle has a special sparkling pattern. 192 crystal triangles are the Gift of Love design of overlapping hearts entwined together symbolizing love for family and friends.
- The 2,688 crystal triangles are bolted to 672 LED modules which are attached to the aluminum frame of the Ball.
- The Ball is illuminated by 32,256 LEDs (light emitting diodes). Each LED module contains 48 LEDs โ 12 red, 12 blue, 12 green, and 12 white for a total of 8,064 of each color.
- The Ball is capable of displaying a palette of more than 16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns that creates a spectacular kaleidoscope effect atop One Times Square.
Our Typical New Year's Eve & Day
Our family has always been big on New Year's Eve celebrations. My earliest childhood is full of fond memories of this holiday. Both sides of my family were and still are big partiers. It the environment I was raised in, which helped make me who I am today. Lol
These days, New Year's Eve begins at about 6 PM and goes for as long as people can stay awake, which is earlier and earlier in my case, but at least until 2 or 3 AM, Lol. Family and friends nap on any available couch and chair. We eat and drink champagne throughout the night with music, dancing, and movies.
In my old high school days, my band would play until the sun came up, and everyone had breakfast before going home. The police were sure to respond to someone's noise complaint, and my mother fed them, too. Haha
Don't worry; I still get my share of guitar playing in throughout the long New Year weekend! ๐
This year, we have three new movies to watch on Ultra High-Def (4K):
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
- Expend4bles (2023)
- Oppenheimer
When we finally get some sleep and cleaned up, it's time to celebrate again with our traditional New Year's Day open house. It's a great opportunity to get together with people we haven't seen in a while to eat more treats like pate and caviar, drink champagne (again!), and catch up on what's new.
My Busy New Year Schedule
My 2024 calendar is booked every day through January 12th with more get-togethers with friends and professional colleagues as the fun continues, signaling that bringing in the new year is no small feat! Lol ๐
I'm so lucky to have some of the best friends imaginable! ๐

Have a great NYE. We are just deciding what trouble to get ourselves into this year.
Must remember to stack up on Panadol although I often just use salt and water which does the trick โswimmingly โ
I have my assistants working out what โ monkey business โ we are going to get up to. I donโt think it will beat the one when I ended up in Cambodia. ๐ฐ๐ญ lol.

It sounds like you are in for a real adventure, Steve! ๐๐

Sure is, and hopefully the weather will cooperate here in Tampa, itโs been kind of cold, but bearable and certainly not as bad as itโs been when we lived in NY.

Sounds like a great move, Mike, from NY to Florida.
Golfing year-round! ๐โณ๏ธ๐๏ธ

My New Years has changed over the years, Frank.
My Dad and I are big football fans, along with other family members. Next to Super Bowl Sunday, we'd spend New Years Day catching some of the bowl games with chips and dip - back when there were only a handful of games ONLY played on New Years Day. But THAT's been watered down, with almost fifty bowl games now played over two weeks in December, with mediocre teams who have no business playing in them. Enough of that rant!
I also used to stay up and catch Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve back in the day when he was still alive - but it's just not as nostalgic as it used to be. Ryan Seacrest is no Dick Clark.
Excellent list of albums and Movies to spend the weekend with, though I would add some honorable mentions like "Aliens" and "Terminator 2". I do remember spending a New Years Eve where we rented a bunch of movies from the video store (Remember Blockbusters?), large pizzas and chips for our own marathon.
But since everything's on streaming now, this is the route I'll take this weekend. ๐ฟ๐ฅ
Appreciate the post, Frank! ๐ค๐ธ
Happy New Years! ๐๐ฅ๐พ

Hi Isaiah
Yeah, I miss Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, too!
Things never stay the same, but the key is to adapt and keep the good times rolling as best we can.
I love "Aliens" and "Terminator 2!" That's why I had AI make the list; otherwise, I would have listed way too many movies! Lol ๐
We have all the cable and streaming channels, but we try not to stream our movies whenever possible. The video is good, but the sound is terrible! The better the sound system you have, the more you'll notice the difference!
Great sound really puts you "in the movie," especially if it's action-adventure or horror.
Movies on disk are going away, but luckily, we have thousands of DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4Ks to watch. Our home theater is a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision-certified setup. I have another smaller surround sound theater in my music studio that I use to watch music concerts.
Enjoy the New Year weekend festivities, Isaiah, & have a Rockin' 2024! ๐คโก๏ธ๐พ

Happy New Year, Frank! For New Year's I went to Juneau to get a tooth fixed, and ended up having a great time with my son and daughter-in-law. The tooth is fixed, though have a temporary crown and will have to go back. If I enjoy myself as much as I did this time, 'twill be worth it.
While there, my son, David, introduced me to the YouTube channel on his big flat screen, and a musician I had not heard of before. You most likely have -- Lucas Imbiriba -- I was overwhelmed; watched his hands, both left and right, in fascination. How many hours has he played to achieve such skill? Totally amazing -- and nice to discover a new talent that I'll now follow and enjoy many times.
The world is an amazing place!
Hi Fran
Sorry about the tooth, but Iโm so glad you had fun at your sonโs house.
Yes, I caught the Lucas interview a few years ago on Rick Beatoโs YouTube channel. He is a fabulous flamenco player!
All the best in 2024! ๐ฅณ๐ฅ
