Happy Birthday David Gilmour! (March 6, 1946)
Hi, WA Friends!
Following up on a post I wrote for the 50th anniversary of the Dark Side Of The Moon album:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...
Today is David Gilmour's Birthday! He's 77 years old!
For those who do not know, David joined Pink Floyd as a guitar player and vocalist shortly before the passing of Syd Barrett.
David continued to play with Pink Floyd, even after Roger Waters left the band in 1985.
David's Solo Albumsο»Ώ
David recorded "David Gilmour" in 1978:
And "About Face" in 1984:
Both these albums reflect David's earlier compositional style and are "must listen" to recordings!
After Pink Floyd broke up, David continued to write his own material and recorded two additional studio albums, which I feel are every bit as good as what he wrote with Floyd!
First came "On An Island" in 2006:
Then, "Rattle That Lock" in 2015:
What Makes David Gilmour Special?
What I like best about David's guitar playing is the way he brings together harmony and melody! He always leaves just the right amount of space between the notes in his guitar solos to make them uniquely reflective of the lyrics.
He embellishes his playing with an amazing array of electronic effects! Everything that David has written is a master class on how to take an audience through the beginning, middle, and end of a musical story. It's like a great piece of classic literature!

Pink Floyd is in my top 10 list of rock groups, and Momentary Lapse of Reason is one of my favorite tunes. The Wall would, it is still great, just TOO overplayed.
Happy Birthday, David!

Haha, one of the very, very best, Mike! ππ
British guitarists have always been phenomenal in every sense of the word, and I've stolen more riffs from them than I would care to admit! Lol!

Yeah, Mike. David could easily fit into the top three!
I'm listening to nothing but his solo albums and Floyd tunes today. My wife and I will have a little party in his honor later tonight. Haha! ππΈ
Yeah, I have them all and each one is excellent:
In Concert
Remember That Night
Live in Gdansk-Part 1&2
Live at Pompeii (2017)
I have the original Pompeii concert with Pink Floyd, too.
Plus, every commercial and known bootleg concert that Floyd ever did.ππΈ

Great reporting Frank.
David Gilmour is only a few weeks older than me. I was first exposed to Dark Side Of The Moon when I heard the intro track to Time at a Hi-Fi Exhibition at Earls Court in London in 1973.
The clocks ticking and chiming were the perfect material to showcase the qualities of a good Hi-Fi System. At the time I didn't know where that track originated from. I soon did and bought the LP that I still have.
Frank, you are a true enthusiast of rock music legends. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us at strategic moments.
Cheers.
Edwin
Thanks, Edwin!
Yes, Dark Side Of The Moon is a fabulous album in so many respects!
The Pink Floyd concert "Pulse" was recorded on October 20, 1994, at Earls Court. Check it out! π
