The Google Search Engine AI Is Here And It's Really Impressive!
Hi, WA Friends!
TodayI was approved for the Google Search labs beta experiment from their waitlist! This provides a fully functional look at how Google plans on implementing AI into their standard search result.
So, I thought I'd share some thoughts on my initial experience instead of my usual guitar post (and I know how unhappy that will make many of you. Lol) π
The Starting Pointο»Ώ
So, Google claims we have the opportunity to experience a range of three new experiments that include generative AI.
Each experiment works differently, and you can turn them off at any time.
Here are the initial setup options:
After you activate them, you can turn them off by clicking on the little Erlenmeyer flask icon at the top right of your logged-in Google search screen.
Google is currently offering these three lab experiments.
1. Search Generative Experience (SGE)
SGE allows you to find what you're searching for in faster, more relevant ways and to ask follow-up questions to focus-in on your query. It works a lot like Open AI, except that Google's AI (Bard) has access to more updated info.
SGE can be automatically activated as information is pulled in from your search query.
Here's an example of how SGE works.
I searched for "Jeff Beck's guitar style" in a regular Google search browser window (see how I worked music into this AI post, sneaky, huh?). Above the regular search results, I am presented with an option to get an "AI-powered overview" (see the red arrow in the image below).
When I click on the "Generate" button, I am presented with the following information.
Notice how my article shows up as the middle image (see the red arrow above) between the Guitar World Magazine and Guitar Player Magazine articles. If anyone clicks on the "My Guitar Lair" image, it will take them to the article on my website.
So, Google SGE is already helping me in the AI-generated search results!
There are also buttons for "ask a follow-up" query and other search suggestions.
Below this AI-generated (SGE) info are the usual Google SERPs. My article also appears in the number one slot on page one, so I am being shown TWICE on the search page! Hey, that's double exposure! What more can I possibly ask for?
2. Code Tips
This experiment allows you to get coding tips directly from your search, which is also similar to Open AI's coding capabilities.
It may be automatically triggered for certain coding questions.
3. Add To Sheets
Lastly, this experience allows you to add search information directly into Google Sheets, their free spreadsheet app, without encountering some of the formatting issues that can occur in Open AI.
The Add To Sheets functionality appears when you hover over "most search results."
You can see the Add To Sheets icon in the image below (red arrow) as I hover over the search result for my article in position one, under the AI-generated results.
Pretty cool, huh? π
Privacy Issues
To activate the Search Generative Experience and Code Tips experiments, you must agree to a privacy notice that pops up in a separate window.
This is not required to activate the Add To Sheets experiment.
You can always deactivate these experiments at a later date if you're not comfortable with how Google is using your search results, using the method I mentioned above.
My First Impression
So, as you've seen, Google AI is not planning to put affiliate marketers out of business. We need to embrace this new technology and learn to use it in the best possible ways to ensure our ongoing success!
I haven't had a chance to play with the Code Tips or Add To Sheets experiments yet, but after I play some music, I'll take a look and update this post or write a new one.
I believe that, eventually, Google AI will catch up to and bypass the abilities of Open AI and Microsoft's implementation of it.
The future of AI is so bright I gotta wear shades! Lol π

You continue to hone your craft, not only with music but also with search engine optimization techniques. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
The bottom line is you need to know your stuff before you can benefit from this new technology using AI generative technology
Obviously, you are there.
Good luck with this experience, and thank you for sharing this information with us.
Thanks so much, Virginia!

Haven't got round to trying this one yet Frank, but it certainly seems promising!

I had missed this one, Frank! Thanks for sharing the info. The only downside for me is that useless Bill C-18 (from the Canadian government), which blocks Google's Bard unless I use a VPN (Which is totally annoying to me), so I have been using ChatGPT and Bing all along, without looking into Bard that much... I still managed to register, and I am on the waiting list, so we'll see π
Yeah, that sucks, Denis, but eventually you'll be able to use it as intended.
I think things will really change in the SERPS when Google SGE comes out of Beta.
Luckily, many of my articles are being featured there.
Rock On! π€
