Hi, WA Friends

I've had several WA members who enjoy Rock ask me about renaissance music, so I thought I'd write a short post about a band whose guitar player you might know.

Remembering The Days Of Deep Purple

If you liked 60s and 70s Rock, then you're probably quite familiar with the band Deep Purple. But, if the name doesn't ring a bell, you most likely know them by songs like "Smoke On The Water, " " Highway Star, " " Space Truckin, " and " Woman From Tokyo."

So, what does this have to do with renaissance music? Well, the guitar wizardry of Deep Purple was powered by Ritchie Blackmore. If you play contemporary guitar or owned a lava lamp in the 60s, you know who I'm talking about!

Does this photo ring any bells?

Who Is "Blackmore's Night?"

Fast forward to today, and Ritchie looks quite different these days, as he plays music in the Renaissance style, one of his favorite types of music from the very early days of his career.

He has undergone quite a transformation in his stage image. Check out the guy that was once known as the "Black Knight" and the "Prince Of Darkness."

Add Ritchie's wife, Candice Night, to the mix, and you have the Rock Renaissance band "Blackmore's Night!" The title image of this point is a stage shot of the band with Ritchie playing the Renaissance Lute and Candice singing lead vocals.

Candy is an excellent vocalist and multi-instrumentalist!

Their music is "hypnotizing" and features many of the instruments of the Renaissance period, including the Lute, Hurdy Gurdy, and Shawm!

They travel the world bringing their brand of Renaissance Rock to the masses, with Ritchie breaking out his electric guitar to play one or two Deep Purple favorites.

If you like Rock and want to learn more about Renaissance music, check out some of their recorded music on YouTube!

A good band. One of my friends from the 70’s was a die hard fan and I certainly enjoyed some of their music, but the memory of the lava lamp had me laughing out loud. A memory and story from another day and for another day. Thanks for the memory…
Stevoi

Yeah, Stephen, Ritchie is a true guitar virtuoso!

If you had a lava lamp then you must have had black light posters. 😎

Have you heard Blackmore’s Night? It’s very addictive stuff!

Frank 🎸

Black lights and velvet posters lol

Yeah, can’t believe how much time I spent listening to music in the dark back in the 60s! 😎

"Man on the Silver Mountain" - Rainbow, came to me instantly when I read Ritchie Blackmore. That song blew my speakers in my old Ford Pinto. I used black electricians tape to fix them :)

Playing it now.

Deep Purple was a big favorite.

Haha, David.

That is a great tune! I’ve blown more guitar cabinet speakers than I can count! 😎

Ritchie did some of his best stuff with Rainbow. He had a lot of social issues with some of the other Deep Purple members, especially John Lord.

When he left the band Steve Morse replaced him.

Check out Blackmore’s Night. I know you’ll enjoy it!

Frank 🎸

Wow, Frank, some more things that I didn't know! You are a wealth if musical information, my friend!

Thanks, Jeff!

I'm learning new musical stuff each day, just like you.

Blackmore's Night is great "blog-writing music," but what isn't? 😎

Frank 🎸

Haha, Frank, you are right about that, my friend!

You know me Frank, I love every type of rock!!

Ritchie was fantastic back in the day with Deep Purple, and still is today my friend!

Keep on Rockin' buddy! 🎸🎸🍻

Haha, Nick
You're absolutely correct about Ritchie! 👍

Check out a little Blackmore's Night. It's relaxing but very melodic and musically interesting. Ritchie's wife has the voice of an angel.😎

Keep Rockin' 🤘
Frank 🎸

Will do my friend!

🎸🎸🍻
