How to get the best out of ChatGPT-5
How to get the best out of ChatGPT-5
If you want to get the very best out of ChatGPT-5, think of your interaction like tuning an instrument: the clearer and richer the input, the more resonant the output.
Here’s how you can enhance things:
1. Give ChatGPT-5 a clear “stage” to perform on
Instead of “Tell me about history”, go for “Explain the history of Timbuktu’s manuscripts in a way that feels like a fireside story.”
- Why it helps: ChatGPT-5 can match not just the facts, but the mood and style you want.
- Pro tip: Mention the format you’d like: list, blog post, dialogue, poem, infographic, etc.
2. Use “personas” or roles
Tell ChatGPT-5 who you want ChatGPT-5 to be:
- “Be my strategic advisor”
- “Act like a 17th-century mapmaker”
- “You are my no-nonsense project manager”
This shapes tone, depth, and perspective.
3. Layer the conversation
You can build in rounds:
- Quick draft → 2. Expand → 3. Refine → 4. Add flair
This makes the final result richer than trying to do it in one go.
4. Teach ChatGPT-5 your style
If you give ChatGPT-5 examples of what you love (past writing, favorite tone, even your quirks), ChatGPT-5 can mirror it so the output feels like yours, not just ChatGPT-5's.
5. Keep the “why” in mind
If you tell ChatGPT-5 why you want something, ChatGPT-5 can shape it better.
Example: instead of “Give me a list of 10 blog ideas,”
say “Give me a list of 10 blog ideas that appeal to busy entrepreneurs who want quick wins.”
6. Mix creativity with constraints
Constraints sharpen creativity. Instead of “Write a poem about the moon”,
try “Write a 6-line rhyming poem about the moon as if it were an old jazz musician in Paris.”
7. Make ChatGPT-5 remember what matters
You can build a “shared memory” . ChatGPT-5 can recall your preferences, style, and ongoing projects, so you don’t have to repeat them each time.
Example: “Remember that I like witty blog posts with short punchy paragraphs and playful metaphors.”
8. Don’t be afraid to challenge ChatGPT-5
If something ChatGPT-5 gives you feels meh, say so ... and tell ChatGPT-5 what’s missing.
That feedback loop lets ChatGPT-5 dial it in closer to what you had in mind.

I agree with you on point number 3 about layering the conversation. Even when I was using ChatGPT-4, I found I got better results if I worked through a post in sections. If you ask it to write everything in one shot, it tends to skim over things and the content isn’t as in-depth. I like to do one section at a time, review it, then go back and forth to improve it. It takes more time, but the quality is better.
And like you said in point number 8, I’m not afraid to be honest with it. If I don’t like the direction it’s going, I’ll say so. If I agree, I’ll say that too. I treat it like an assistant, one you have to train and give feedback to.
For me, fact-checking is a big part of the process. I can’t just take what it gives me at face value. I have to edit it and make sure everything is correct before it’s ready to publish.

Thanks @fleeky - this aligns with my experience. Its important to 'train' your AI - who are you, what persona you want ( I write a Scout update to parents its a different tone to my work correspondence). If the AI is off target I found that 'manually tidying it up' and pasting the revision back also works - sort of a 'like this buddy'.... and mufti step approach to build out more complex or larger work is a must in my book. Thanks again!
Hey Fleeky,
Great post, thank you, lots of excellent pointers.
Re No.4, I always copy and paste my last 3 articles into a new thread, so that Ella, aka Chat can get a 'feel' of my writing style, formatting and energy of my article, that way we're not starting from scratch each new thread.
Looking forward to seeing what this updated 5.0 version can do.
Cheers
Cherie 😊
Hey Cherie,
Did you enable memory in settings... it allows chatGPT to follow up on all your chats! Easy peasy... just frame the idea, the context, the style, the outcome,... and wishing you a wonderful happy birthday

I got ChatGPT-5 this morning and as part of the introduction I asked it what it remembered and it gave me all the projects I am working on - basically what it has in its saved memory. I haven't worked with it much yet and it will take a little time to become as familiar as the GPT-4o has been. Thanks for the tips.
Wow... that sounds like a big promise...

Yes the extended memory is an asset, for sure...
And easier to work with on specific projects indeed...
ChatGPT has become more intuitive as well..
did you notice?
Thank you for sharing🙌
