Many of you have probably heard of the ADA requirements when building a website.
For those who do not know, it simplyy means your site must be friendly for disabled people.

What does ADA mean?

It means the Americans with Disabilities Act from 1990, stressing the rights of disabled people and abolishing discrimination.

For many a relieve. With special space to park a car, or audible sounds on traffic lights, ... examples are many.

Lesser known is that it applies to the design of your website as well.

Some points of attention

• Every image, video file, audio file, plug-in, graphic, link, must have an alt tag and text descriptive. For those lesser familiar with the subject, check your media library and make sure the labels are filled
• Add captions to videos and descriptions to audio
• Create a link to videos instead of embedding it
• Add a link to the media player download
• If you use descriptive tables, use the <th> tag
• Decoratives, do need no alt tags, nor description
• Do not use flashy colors or images, disturbing sight
• Use readable fonts and pixels

Those are some points of attention, easy to implement and to take into account.

Just know that correct ADA webdesign improves your SEO as well.
