Make More Money Without Getting A Second Job!
It's true! You can make more money without getting a second job!
Now before you say bull, let me explain.
I'm talking about changing the way you spend the money you already make.
Do you really need to eat out 3 or more times a week? I have a family of 4 and we eat out only once a week and that costs us between $80-$100 a month. And that's just eating fast food! Can you imagine how much more it would be at a nice restaurant? Plus you have to tip which adds 15-18% to your total bill. So potentially we could spend over $200 month at nicer restaurants.
Use coupons at the grocery store. I'm not saying to be an extreme couponer like you see on T.V. but use coupons on the things you would buy anyway. Should save a few dollars.
Plan your meals ahead of time. This way you're not guessing what you're gonna make on any givin night. This will keep you from eating out more also.
Can you just drink your coffee at home and stay away from Starbucks. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I understand that it costs $3 or more for one cup. I think I'll pass.
Are designer clothes really that important to you? You can actually find many name brands at thrift stores for just a few dollars. Nobody has to know!
Stay away from movie theatres all together in my opinion and wait till it comes out on video.
You have to give them your firstborn to get a bucket of popcorn! Ridiculous!
Are you taking all the deductions you can on your W2? Will increase your take-home pay if you're able to do so.
Save money on gas by doing all your errands at one time instead of sporatically throughout the week. Less wear and tear on your vehicle also.
Have a garage sell to get rid of stuff you don't use or sell it on e-bay. Should put a few extra hundred bucks in your pocket.
Start paying off debt! Stop paying 18% on credit cards and cut them up. Don't worry, you can live without the plastic!
By paying off the 18% credit cards, you're actually earning 18% on your money.
Start using cash to pay for purchases. It's harder to part with the cash than it is to pull out the credit card. You will always spend more when using the credit card. GUARANTEED!
If you only use a cell phone, get rid of the landline. We have both but we use MajicJack as our landline. It's only about $30 for the year. Yes, that per year. No more monthly charges.
Cut down on utilities by weather-proofing around doors and windows.
If you have to make a major purchase such as a car or furniture, use cash. You can often get a better deal when you flash the cash! And I'm talking about used cars, I never buy new.
I'm sure there are more ways that I haven't thought of, but what I'm trying to say is to be a good steward of the resources you are given and don't try to keep up with the Jones', cause the Jones' are going broke.
Be content with the things you have, follow these ideas, then you won't have to get a second job!
If you have any more ideas or comments, I would love to hear them.

Just one. Plan an actual budget, to see where you can save more money. The more money you save, puts you in an asset column with investments. You have got a great working list going! Impressive.
Let's see: I think you forgot consignment shops, both for finding barely used furniture and for selling some of your barely used" whatevers." And Craig's List is a great place to find different kinds of items in too many areas to mention. You are doing a heck of a good job and setting an important example for the young ones. My gosh I don't use a credit card, but it never occurred to me that I should have been putting aside that 18%, just on principle. Thanks for so many ideas!
Thanks for sharing. Consignments shops are something more that my wife would do, that's probably why I didn't think of that. lol
This so very true. If I could just make one comment...I think you should stay away from fast food places or you will be giving money to the doctors. If you get on Dr.Mercola's free newsletter, you will find out what goes into fast food, and you will find out how to stay healthy. You need to be healthy to enjoy the financial that you are working toward...!
Hey Uakoko, I agree about the fast food. Not only is it bad for you, it's also getting expensive to eat at these places. But on the night we don't feel like cooking, it's still too easy to do. Now that me and my wife are working out, we'll probably be a little pickier about what we eat. Thanks for the reply.
Thank you for answering. How about the Paleo diet? That's no grains, no dairy because a lot of people are allergic to those foods. So when you come home you just barbecue a couple of steaks and whip up an organic salad. It's gotta be organic, and the meat has to be grass-fed. If you subscribed to Dr. Mercola's newsletter, your eyes would be opened and your stomach would turn. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention a website here, but I just want to keep you healthy. Actually, those are my two passions...convincing people to stop eating crap, which is any processed food, and to be able to stop selling peoples' lives for pennies as they have to now to greedy corporations. People have only one life and there is no dress rehearsal. This is IT! Be well...
Great post Brian! Being self-employed taught me on how to tighten my belt and spend wisely. Thanks for sharing.. Nenita
Hi Nenita, thanks for the reply. Being self-employed will really make you disciplined on how you spend your money.
One thing I do is check Craigslist for a lot of things that are needed. One lady put her desk outside and said anyone could pick it up and take it. Craigslist has a lot of second hand items that are still really great. They usually have all sorts of people doing jobs that are less expensive than like Roto Rooter.
Also, this is garage sale, yard sale time here in NM and I love to going hunting for things that I can turn a profit on and make some money on. One treasure I found is a bible that is dated back to middle 1800's. It was given to a man named F.D. Farnsworth. The bible is small like the one Lincoln used. Anyways, I have had a $1500.00 offer for it so far.
Netflix is what I use for my movies. $9.95 per month. Not that I have time for it. lol
That is a couple more of my ideas!
I really like your post here and have glanced over it a few times now just to be sure I haven't missed something!
