How to Make Money Here is Such a Mystery! Or Is It?
Why does it need to be such a mystery? Or be so difficult?
So nice to meet you! Put in a year and your bound to succeed. Really! Put important things above the fold. I've heard it all!
It's nuts!
Listen. You're in a people business, not a computer/internet business. Here is what I visualize happening to students not earning money.
A virtual marketplace
You know the kind with lots of people walking and shopping looking to buy fruit, clothing, etc.
Ahh... I see one who wants to buy some oranges!
What luck a WA student shop (web site) is selling oranges! But he's too busy talking to notice!
To busy wishing other students luck and asking if the color of their sign is right? Now they're stacking their oranges to look more better. After all their oranges shop is designed to be self-service - using the latest technology. Customers can simply pick out their fruit and drop the money in the cash register.
The competition does it right
In the meantime, the competitor across the street has kids handing out free oranges on the street. The thankful and curious customer is led back to the shop where salesmen get to know them - calling them by their name.
Once the oranges are sold, they're up selling automatic orange peelers. There is a display rack with flyers on how to cook with oranges. The owners are visiting the local restaurants getting to know their orange requirements and trying to sell oranges by the ton.
They're peeking into every eye. Getting to know their clients.
Finally, a sale! Almost.
An occasional buyer wanders across the street to see what is going on at non-performing WA's student's orange shop. Finally. But, why should they buy their oranges?
You answer the question.

You're absolutely spot on. I read yet another "why am I not making any money?" blog a few weeks ago from somebody who had posted more than 300 blogs in less than a year. Yes, almost one a day.
How much more productive would he have been if he had spent the time actually doing something to promote his website? If you were discussing a "normal" job would you be complaining about not getting paid if you were not actually doing that job? Of course not!
Great article. I am receiving organic traffic on my site. Maybe I am giving more customer value.
Great job! Love the analogy. Hmm, catch your customers attention, offer value to your customers, and give them more than what they are expecting to get when they visit your site and it'll keep them coming back. ;)
Good answer. But, I recently got into trouble with one of my niches, by not being clear with myself about "value." The value has to be clear and directly related to the needs of clients who can buy it. It's assumed that we understand that automatically. But, unless you have actual conversations with clients, you cannot ever be 100% sure.
I love this analogy.. I am working my way through these training's... i have already started to see organic traffic on my website.
Congradulations! Many do not get that far. However, I've had sites before with lots of traffic and very little sales. Frustrating.
So, change your clothes, put on something weird, wear a costume, but put your eyeballs behind the eyes of an imaginary client. Get your mind clear. Now, read your web site to yourself in front of a mirror. Read it to a friend.
Ask yourself. Would you buy from them? Is your value proposition strong? Irressistable?Do these exercises often and you'll greatly reduce the time it takes to earn money.
"How" is not a mystery.
Time is mystery.
Even if you did everything you had to, you still have to wait until somebody passes by and maybe stops by.
An orange shop without a good value proposition could be open forever, and still never sell an orange. That's not a mystery. Here is a famous quote about getting traffic. "I never search for anything, If I need something it will find me." Spoken by a 22-year old consultant hired by a big bank to teach them how to market to the younger crowd.
First, I'm concerned about building a site that'll sell something (Niche selection is sooo important). Second, I'm worried about building traffic.
Very nice analogy. You have to stand out, draw people in, and basically do everything you'd do to be successful in a bricks and mortar business...but translate that online.
Thanks. I'm absolutely sure technology often confuses people and gets in the way of common sense.
