Ok, I get it! Crazy headlines attract readers. Of course, they're writing for their readers. Always a good idea. But, they're ignoring extra traffic from keyword ranking.

Yet, both of these sites have millions of monthly readers!

I look up the keywords on Jaaxy and see little keyword traffic? Even after picking after root keywords. Are they somehow just beyond it all!

And, why do so many very blogs start with a number, examples:

  • 5 Things You Should Do Once You Know It's Over.
  • 7 Foods You Should Not Eat to Lose Belly Fat.

I see scores of them on very successful sites! Like askmen.com or cracked.com. What is going on!

Does anyone know the answers?

Think 10 is the most shared with and added slideshow. Which is what I use on occasion. Am with Chris on what these are and the branded sites are the ones who do and don't need SEO since they are linked with the next big guys on the internet as referrals. ^_~

These types of articles are known as "link bait" They are created for the sole purpose of attracting attention and being shared. It sounds bad, but it doesn't have to be. Also, on your keyword question.

Some sites are beyond keywords and SEO...in a sense. They have built their brand to be recognized and therefore they don't rely on Google for traffic. They can depend entirely on Social media, or other things.

I encourage to check out http://www.buzzfeed.com/ these guys have encompassed both link bait and branding in such a way that they have no real need for SEO.

Jonah Peretti is the CEO of that site. Google him and watch his interviews. You'll learn a lot about this kind of stuff. People give him a hard time because they write so much link bait, but I'm sure he doesn't care....he's too busy cashing checks.

Saying there are 5 or 10 of something doesn't increase my chances of clicking a link or sharing. But, everyone is different.

I do see these post ranking high all over the search results. Are you sure he doesn't do it for ranking of keywords? However, in support of what you are saying, I don't see his root keywords chasing much traffic - according to Jaaxy. That is why I was confused.

Nice to talk to someone with more advanced knowledge.
