Creating my first YouTube Video
YouTube Video
A few weeks ago I wrote an article about video and YouTube. It is an excellent idea to create a video about a product that you review and this way try to monetise by adding an affiliate link with the video on YouTube or adding a link to your own site for more information, your review, on the product and then send them to your call to action button.
Old Footage
A couple of weeks ago I uploaded a video to YouTube based on footage I created a few years ago. That video was about flying a kit with the intention of fun, never with the intention to sell or advertise kites. Obvious I wrote a review on that particular kite and so far I got over 75 view in about 6 weeks. Does it make any money? Not really but I do not expect that at all, that video was more, as mentioned for fun, rather than a advertisement pitch.
Latest Video
Today, or better yesterday I should say, I started to create a video on a product I bought a few weeks ago. This product is used to clean a keyboard, a couple of weeks ago I wrote the article and today the video.
Should I have waited that long between finalising and adding a video? I do not think so, the article is indexed with Google and this is just an update on the same article. That means for Google that the article is a live article and hopefully it should help getting a better ranking. The YouTube video is now embedded into that article so hopefully it will get a ranking boost.
The Camera
The camera I used for the video, both the "old" and the new is a camera I gave my wife for her birthday although I cannot remember which birthday, but I saw videos of our wedding in Thailand on it and that was back in 2008.
Summary of the Above
- Created a blog about YouTube and video
- Created a video about flying a kite few years ago
- Wrote an article on that particular kite
- Edited that video a few weeks ago and uploaded to YouTube, now 75+ views in less than 2 months
- Bought a product about a cleaning product
- Created an article about that cleaning product
- Created a video “How To” use that cleaning product
- Uploaded today
- Used "old" camera but good enough for YouTube
The Editing Process
I normally use my Windows 10 laptop to edit the movie with Windows Movie Maker but my son is using the laptop so I had to think about something else because a Chromebook is great but there is no Windows Movie Maker and first I had to convert my .MOV file to .MP4
Luckily there are enough free sites available that can convert these short video’s and in this case I used Convert-Video-Online.
But that is only the converting, not the editing which I could not do on my Chromebook.
YouTube
There is video editor available within YouTube, it is not really advertised, I had to search for it but it was good enough to cut 15 seconds from the original video to bring it back to about 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
Music and Video
At the time I edited the flying a kite video with Windows Movie Maker I embedded free music which is great especially when it goes to the background when I speak unfortunately that is, as far as I have tested, not possible with YouTube.
Monetise
Will I be able to monetise the new video that I placed to day. A link has been placed to my own site for a review and I will see in Google Analytics and YouTube Analytics the progress of hits and views.
Learning Curve
I am still in the learning curve of video’s, it is not only the editing but saying what you have to say and or better to leave out what is totally not relevant. In the video I created today there are elements that I could have avoided because they are not relevant, I left them in because for me it is the learning curve.
Addiction to Video
I have some more products that I will review, including a video, so I might get the hang of it and that is exactly what I need. English is not my native language, but you already would have guessed by this text, but that is fine, that is writing, I can go back and change the words, or change a sentence with video that is different. You just cannot go back unless you shoot that video again or call it “take 2”, “take 3”, well I am not that professional yet.
I am pretty sure that I will create more video, not only of products but also video about for example Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager and there is so much to think about but that is all for later.
I love video, I am addicted.
