Guess what I found in three weeks?!?
Three weeks in and I have found a “job” I love! I have always loved learning and Wealthy Affiliate has helped me in that more than I could hope for.
The learning of Wealthy Affiliate….
It never stops! Each day there is something new that I have to go back and implement in my site to make it better.
There have already been too many times that I have had to go back through my old posts and rewrite something, or change a picture, or add something I didn’t know. That does not count going back and doing all the things I am learning that will boost my SEO rankings.
This week brings even more learning. Another round of revamping comes right after a week like this one. Lessons like how to build your backlinks and how many you might just want or need for your webpage to be noticed.
Backlinks
Google loves these! But what are they?
Have you put a post on Facebook recently for your website? You have made a backlink. Every time you post something to social media you are creating fresh backlinks.
Have you left a comment on someone else’s site recently? Did you see that box the “URL” spot? Throw a link to one of your posts in there. No, really do it.
You just made a backlink there too!
The best backlinks are the ones you put on sites that already have authority in your niche. Like my site is about growing cannabis. A great backlink to my site would be on a site like ilovegrowingmarijuana.com. A site that is already well known in my niche.
You do not have to limit your backlinks to just sites that fit in your niche though. Use your backlinks just about anywhere to start.
The optimal number of backlinks for each post on your site should be ten to start. As you build your backlink pool you will get pickier on the posts you make more backlinks too.
When you have a good pool of backlinks (more than 15 backlinks per post) you will want to start being pickier on the sites you add backlinks too as well. Keeping your backlinks pool fresh and at a decent size will make google like you. I know we are all fighting for google to like us best. This is one more great tool in your “make google like me” tool belt.
Commenting
Did you know that it matters what you write in your comments on other people’s pages?
Really! Google looks at the comments and if they do not go with the content of the post then the whole post gets negative marks in content. No matter what you do online google pays attention!
You may know nothing on the subject to which you are posting a comment. So leave a question. Or quote a line in the post that stood out to you.
Things like “This was a great post!” are not going to help anyone. It says nothing about what the post had to say. It adds no value.
Comments like the one above will not make someone else leave a comment if they check out the post. Other people like to see engagement. If you are going to leave a comment, leave it as if you are someone coming to the post for the information that it contains.
Gear your comments to help add value to every person’s post you comment on. It will help us all in the long run. And you can add a backlink and get help for your own site.
The better their site will rank the more google will like your backlink and thus you’re linked post.
Get yourself out there!
If you were to start a brick and mortar business your first step would be to make contacts and find a few to invest in your business.
I want to take the time to look at something. I want to try to shed a different light on it.
We are not brick and mortar businesses. BUT we are still businesses. We still need investment. So, how do we get it?
People.
Wasn’t that what we were doing before? No.
Why is it different? We are and we are not looking for money this time. Money is a great investment in our businesses, yes. There is something more that we need though.
Authority.
So, how do we get it? Quality comments and backlinks.
We need people investing the time it will take to leave comments that will help our content. Remember if google thinks someone has better content, then they will get ranked higher.
We also need to invest something of ourselves. Our content is great and we are getting great comments now. We even have great backlinks. What more could we do?
Social media
Really? AGAIN?!?!
Take this one a different way too.
You do not have many real world parts to your online business. At most you have family and friends who check out your website when you post new stuff. Sometimes when it is relevant to them they will comment.
For a brick and mortar business you would have employees, maybe a CPA, a lawyer on call (depending on what you do), returning customers, a network. Most of which would be in your town or city.
But we are not brick and mortar. That network is not there either.
So, where do we get something like that for our online business?
You just thought it. Really you did! Online!
Break out that Facebook or Instagram page that your kid, friend, or significant other made you make. You know the one. You never use it anymore. You never really used it to begin with.
Do something for me. Change your old profile pic.
I bet people will notice. You see your network now? They are what you use instead of the real world examples I used earlier. Don’t knock the use of social media because you don’t like or want to use it. It is still a vital part of your online adventure.
Conclusion
I have a lot of work ahead of me. None of my posts have backlinks to them. How many of your posts have backlinks?
I lost my information for my old Facebook page a long time ago. I built a new one. Time to start working to build my network again. How many people do you have following, retweeting, or liking your posts and comments on social media?
Do you have an online presence? I know I don’t. I am still too new of a site. I have to implement everything in this post and hopefully in three to six months I will have the authority in my niche to make money.
I am rebuilding my network through the online workplace. How big is your online business network?
Please comment and share. I would love to know your answers too!!

You're certainly right Brittaney,
having good baclinks per each post is a key to getting good rankings from Google as I have learned from somewhere sometime ago.
Also, I think as you advised, I need to start working on build my followers on my Facebook Page, it will be a very fine opportunity out there in branding myself with my business.
Thanks a lot for sharing this useful information.
You are welcome Stephen! I am happy to find so many people finding help in my post today!
The great thing about social media is that there are so many platforms you can work with. Be it Facebook, Google +, Instagram, and pintrest are just a few.
Oh wow, Britt, your article made me do some 'soul-searching' and following up with some 'content-searching-revamping'. I am like you, I was not building any backlinks, so yet again the process continues on the road to success.
And talking about social presence - that's another story..lol...needs work too.
Thanks for sharing. Now I am back to work.

It is kind of nice to know that I am not the only one that far behind. So much to do! Though I cannot say that I am too happy to know that so many are at the same place. I hope this gets us all in a better position to succeed.
There is no 'race', Britt. We all have to find that 'place' and 'pace' that suits us as individuals. The true key is 'taking action' no matter which level you are on!

I agree Michelle. I think if you try to push yourself to learn at a faster pace than you can, then you will only end up making your learning take that much longer because you miss things.
Thank you! I have been writing for a long time before doing this. I am also trying to write a fiction novel on the side. Suffering from a huge case of writers block though. I still try to write at least 250 words a day to break it. It still hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
Ask google for your subject.
Read through them and there will be a few things to unblock your ideas so you can improve on yours and theirs.
Fiction is being over done but there are now opportunities to put some fiction into the real problems of life.
I hope I have helped.
Tom.
There are so many things that I have heard about, but either never implemented, or perhaps not followed through on as well as I should have. Backlinks fall into that category.
I comment frequently on other sites, but don't always include a link to my own site. As I learn more about how and why these things work, I am going back and updating my older posts.
It makes me happy to know I have less than 20 posts to have to start adding backlinks to. Some people have a lot more posts and no backlinks. I hope this helps them the most.
Thanks, Brittaney, for this informative post. It's incredibly important and helpful to our business growth when others leave comments that are engaging on our posts. We should always be doing that for others too.
I wish you all the best,
Sue
I agree with you Sue. If their page is not getting any traffic, then our backlinks are not all that strong. We can help by making our comments relevant and thus making the page more relevant to the reader and google.
I just thought of something way better! Conversations in comments about the content in the post! It makes for a more interactive page.
This week has been back link week I feel. I never really understood them until this week so hve been busy with the comments this week and catching up with everyone's post. You summarized back links very well Britt. thanks
I know. I only had backlinks on my Facebook page with posts from my site. I had not used the backlinks in the URL for comments before. I thought google DIDN'T like that not DID. Now I know better and am going through and adding backlinks to every comment I leave.
Thank you Brittanney, I found all of this most helpful.
I especially liked what you said about commenting on other people's posts. - "Things like “This was a great post!” are not going to help anyone. It says nothing about what the post had to say. It adds no value."
We have to always remember that it's not just about taking any old action but that what we are striving for is quality and relevance.
~Mark
I agree. Without taking the time to be aware of what we are writing we can inadvertently hurt the person we are commenting on the site of. Quality and relevant content need to flow through the entire page. That includes our comments on it.

Brittaney,
I have recently learned of the importance of backlinks and what a difference they make in your Google rankings. Also, social media is a must have these days.
Lisa
I agree. Which social site is your favorite to network on?
I think I would have to chose Facebook.
Me too. I have a pintrest but I don't understand how to network on that site.
