My Future's So Bright . . . I Gotta Wear Shades!

I'd like to take a moment to encourage those in the early stages of learning how to build your first website(s). If you're like me you probably already had some ideas of what you want to feature, provide or sell on your site. But once you joined WA you learned there is a very specific path to launching a successful site. You find out the importance of content and Google rankings, so you end up needing to adjust your plan.

Well, thats exactly what happened and I spent a good deal of time trying to force my plan into the WA mode. Let me tell you, it is a lot easier if you re-evaluate your pre-conceived strategy and follow the great instruction received here to the letter when building your first site(s).

Location. Location. Location.

As suggested, it is much easier (and faster) to write about things that you are very familiar with or very passionate about. After some stumbling I decided to set aside my early ideas and choose a topic that I am quite comfortable with, my life in Hawaii. Soon I will integrate relevant reviews and products into the posts to generate traffic and income.

We Can Have It All.

I lost a good amount of time doing my Frank Sinatra impression - “doing it my way”.

Its not that I didn’t believe in the lessons, I was just very hopeful that I could produce a “starter” site quickly while working on a suggested WA formatted site. But what good is a starter site with weak content that’s being ignored by Google?

Once I’ve sharpened my website building skills and built a solid site the WA way, I will re-visit my original strategies and make those sites also.

Live and Learn.

Stay encouraged and remember:

• Shorten the learning curve by not taking short-cuts.
  
• Stay the course. Like any new thing there is a period of adjustment. Its temporary.
  
• Content is king! Choosing a niche that you enjoy talking about will make composing posts much easier than trying to push a particular product or service. You’ll also save a considerable amount of research time because it will be easier to share personal thoughts and experiences than to find a bunch of information to fill your posts.
  
• Hang out in the community. Check out live chat. Scroll through posts. Type a question in the search bar. Your results will bring up links to members and their insights.
• If you get frustrated - press on. Its temporary and you will feel at home in no time :-)
