What Steps Do You Take After Publishing?
I just finished publishing a new article to one of my websites, and as I was going through my post-publishing routine, I thought I would share that with you.
First, immediately after publishing I go to Google Search Console and into the url inspection tool and I request indexing.
I feel this is a perfect first step and a good way to nudge Google with a “Hey! I’m new here! Come check me out!”
Next, I go into the newly published article itself and I share it to my social media. If you have some social share buttons on your article this is very easy.
I don’t have a Facebook but I do have a twitter so I’ll click on the tweet button directly from the article and share it.
This also allows me to make sure the share function works correctly and I can see that the featured image comes up just how I like it, etc.
Don’t forget to give some relevant context in the share and add your relevant hashtags so you can reach the widest audience possible.
The next thing I do is go into Site Comments and request comments for my new article. This sparks engagement and it makes it so that, hopefully, when people arrive at my article after it’s been shared they will see some fresh and new comments which could trigger some new ones.
Finally, the last step I take is to link to my new article from my other published content. You don’t want your article to be orphaned or left all alone, you want it to integrate with the rest of your content.
To do this I’ll go to some related posts and link back to the new article so it’s now officially part of the family and now I’m ready to move onto the next.

I have always followed a 10 step check list during and after I create / publish new content. I refer to Jays example here, although some of the steps now need updated :- Jays 10 Step Process on Getting Content to Rank This is a good SEO ranking process that works well.

Yeah I tick off the check list for every article I do so nothing is missed. This also ensures efficiency & consistency 😀

Since I started this blogging journey I've been second guessing everything I do, but I'm not far off from this routine.
Here's what I so in addition to that:
- Upload to Medium.com
- 10 Pinterest pins and schedule them for the next 1-2 days
- Email my list
- and the next day I'll write a short summary and post on Facebook, LinkedIn and Quora as an article.
Maybe is over kill, but I have a pretty good groove now...

I was pleased and reassured to find out that I had developed a great routine after publishing already. This was mostly intuitive with the help of the training. I've learnt from your post to go and request indexing from google search console now too. well done buddy, thanks again

Great topic, Eric. I appreciate the post and all of the comments.
However, I have a question about updating previously posted material.
For example, I changed the title of my original post and much of the text in other blocks. How would you or others handle the re-indexing? What would the steps look like for you or others that commented here?
I saw where someone posted on this recently and am having difficulty finding it again.

Any time you make major updates to an article it doesn't hurt to nudge Google again with indexing. The rest is up to you. Share away, ask for new comments, whatever you like :)
