Leaving the Perfect Comment in Site Comments
One of the first features of WA that many new members use and use regularly is the Site Comments feature, offering comments for articles members have just published.
And while comments have actually gotten much, much better lately, I feel for newer members especially, there should always be a bit of a template of what and what not to do when leaving comments.
By far, the easiest way to leave a solid comment that gets accepted 99.9% of the time without spending more than 5 minutes of your time:
- Comment from the perspective of the target audience. Imagine you did a Google search for this topic and landed on the article after that Google search.
- Scroll down the article and choose a single, specific point, and then ask a question about it. "Hey I notice you mentioned xyz... My question is how would I go about..." Done and done!
- No need to thank the author repeatedly or mention the title of the article in an effort to add filler. Real commenters never do this.
- No need to leave a summary of the article, going point by point through what is already mentioned and published. Real commenters definitely never do this.
- Get right to the point and ask your question. A small elaboration on your question will easily get you to the minimum word count.
- Never say "I've never heard of this before..." Remember, you're commenting as if you did a google search and are a part of the target audience who's interested in this topic. If you've never heard of the topic of the article then how did you land in the comment section?
- And one last good one, especially for WA reviews looking for comments, if you mention that you too are a WA member and start giving glowing reviews of WA it quickly starts to sound over the top and staged. It's much easier here to just comment from the perspective of someone investigating WA rather than to say you're already a member. Just choose a quick point and ask a solid question about it :)
I know people in the past have said they spend an hour coming up with a great comment only to have it disapproved, and yes, it's hard not to take that personally. But if you're taking an hour to curate a perfect comment then this quick template is going to save you HOURS of time.
Also, there's really no need for AI here. You'll actually be much quicker if you just scroll through and choose a single point from the article as opposed to copying and pasting the article into your AI and asking it for a comment and then copying and pasting the AI comment. When the comment looks too polished, it also comes off as fake.
Don't overthink things.

Great post, Eric. I have never asked for Site Comments and have never commented either, because I have not yet come across one that I see on other people's sites that sound authentic. They are far too detailed and sophisticated sounding - as well as always being published on the same day as the post - with no other comments afterwards. So, if I have WA friends with sites that interest me, I prefer to genuinely read their post and comment the way I would naturally do, rather than be restricted by instructions about length and then possibly have my comment disapproved because I don't know the author and they may have different expectations.
Yeah a lot of people use AI for some reason, and it doesn't make sense to me because the process of using AI in this case actually takes much longer than just leaving a quick and to the point comment, which is all anyone wants in the first place ๐คฃ thank you and take care!
Good Morning Everyone! In lesson 4 phase 3 of the core training "Learn AI", Kyle mentions using AI for responding to site comments as well as for Affiliate Applications and other uses.
That's a good point ๐ฏ
In that lesson he's referring to leveraging AI to respond to comments left on your site and other areas of engagement where you want to answer correctly and professionally. ๐๐ผ
For leaving comments in Site Comments, you could use AI, but the way to do it would be to tell it that you need a concise, to the point comment made from the point of view of the target audience that doesn't summarize the article since that's not natural.
And by the time you've copied and pasted the article into the AI and given it that prompt you'll have taken twice as long as it takes to just choose a specific point and ask a quick question about it. ๐ฏ
That's why it doesn't make much sense to use it in a case where it's quicker and easier without it.
Thank you, Eric, that's a helpful post.
I must admit I haven't commented any one's blog on the platform lately, but I probably have a tendency to over comment rather than just picking one part.
I appreciate the heads up.
Have a great day.
Roy
It's all about keeping it simple. ๐๐ผ
Real commenters get right to the point with their questions.
Makes it easier when we remember that.
Thank you, Eric, it's appreciated.
I'm all for keeping things simple and not over complicating!
I will try and remember.
Thank you for the tip and have a great day.
Roy
Wow! Excellent point, Eric. I try to make good comments about who is making the post; I never thought of making mistakes. I will go through what has already been mentioned and published point by point. Not sure about this 1, "I've never heard of this before..." I might of said that a few times, Do you teach this?
So the whole point of the Site Comments feature is to create authentic sounding comments that get published to the website that potentially get the conversation going with real engagement among the actual target audience.
The comments are meant to be about the topic of the article, not the author. The best practice is to type out your comment from the perspective of someone who did a google search and then landed on that article. In other words, someone deeply interested in the topic of the article.
If you say you've never heard of the topic being discussed, then you instantly remove the credibility of your comment sounding authentic. ๐๐ผ

Hello Eric, I have been thinking a lot about this post because I comment on posts that interest me, and I would like to thank the author. (No need to thank the author) Am I out of line here? ๐ want to understand that I am not polishing, that it comes off as fake. Sorry if I comment too much, I am NEW here
A simple โthank you for this!โ Is totally good. But the thank you / summarize / repeat title / thank you also forโฆ is the part thatโs not needed ๐๐ผ
All you have to do is think about real comments. In this comment you left, for example, you got right to the point of your comment. You didnโt summarize my post, or repeat the title of the post, or thank me for writing it.
Just a simple and to the point comment. Thatโs the way to do it ๐๐ผ๐ฏ
Keep it up!
