I've just created my first post, which is only text. It's fine if you click into the actual post but on the home page it's showing up funny, almost like it's saving space for a
I guess it's supposed to look this way. When you look at the preview here: http://wp-themes.com/hiero/ it's the same layout. Maybe some HTML expert knows how to change this by editing the code?

The free space seems actually to be meant for pictures, but when you look at the demo here http://demo.athemes.com/hiero/ the post at the bottom is text only without space on the left, so it must be possible...
What you could do: Customize > Content/Excerpt > check box "Blog index". Then the complete post is shown on the home page, without the space on the left.
Thank you RobS that worked perfectly. I also didn't realise there was a dedicated forum for the theme so I'm sure that will be extremely useful in the future!

I believe it's space for a picture, which you can easily add. Try setting a featured image for your blog post. You can do it within the right hand side of the post editor when you go in to create or edit your post, you'll see an area to "set the featured image".
