Well. I'm Glad That's Over.
March 2019. What a terrible, terrible month it has been. Every single week there was just something really awful that happened.
There was a measles outbreak in my city and I had to keep my too young to be vaccinated baby away from public spaces (no supermarket for us!)
There were TWO family health emergencies and a prolonged unexpected rushed trip away.
There was the horrific terrorist attack that happened right here in my home city of Christchurch. I can't even begin to explain how I feel about that or the effect it has had.
Needless to say, I feared for my site this month. I thought I wound not have a chance of getting anything done, or to a good standard.
What were my goals and expectations going into this month?
Before everything happened, these were my goals and expectations.
Goals:
- Eight helpful information only articles of around 1000 words each
- Four review posts with affiliate links of around 2500-3000 words each
- Two "best of" style posts with affilate links around 5000-6000 words each
- Four WA webinars
Expectations:
- Zero traffic
- Zero profit

In order to just get through the month without totally losing a grip on progressing my site, I had to shift the goal posts a bit.
I decided my main goal was consistency with my publishing schedule. This meant a few reviews and a best of post got sidelined in favour of more informational posts, as I find them much quicker to write. I surprised myself and managed to publish every day I had intended to.
I achieved:
- Nine info only articles of 1000 words
- Three reviews with affiliate links of 2500-3000 words
- One best of post (and half of another)
- Three WA webinars
Overall, I'm really pleased with what I managed to achieve in the circumstances. I found this post from Nathaniell had really helpful advice to just keep pushing forward. I found if I could do something productive for my site each day, no matter how small, it had a big impact on my mood. It almost became a form of self care and was certainly a welcome distraction.
My site of course made zero income, but I have started to get one or two organic visitors to my site each day. This is exciting, my site is only 3 months old and my niche is competitive.
What are my plans for April?
Again, I'm keeping it simple. I'm focusing on content, content, content. My content goal is much the same as it was for March.
Due to everything that went on, I'm one post short of my usual goals, but onwards and upwards, no biggie.
I found it really helpful to sit down and plan out my month looking forward to a better month than March.
- Eight helpful information only articles of around 1000 words each
- Three review posts with affiliate links of around 2500-3000 words each
- Two "best of" style posts with affilate links around 5000-6000 words each
- Four WA webinars
I was SO tempted to join the Super Affiliate challenge, but I just don't have the time. My golden rule to myself in starting my site was to focus on the ONE SITE ONLY and not allow myself to be distracted by ANYTHING. I'll be watching with interest though, I'd love to participate next year!
